Seeks Good Samaritan
For Old Folks Building

Editor, The Jewish News:
I am sure that many of us,
from time to time, have been
aware of the problems of our
older folks—widows and widow-
ers from 50 to 70 who are finan-
cially independent and mentally
and physically well.
Because of their financial in-
dependence, these people are out
of the realm of our Jewish so-
cial agencies.
If a Good Samaritan or a
group of people were willing to
take a small gamble on a new
type of investment—purchasing
an apartment or building a new
one, making provisions for a
large lounge, then renting apart-
ments at fair rental with no
thought of profits but only of
breaking even financially —
there would be inestimable prof-
its in satisfaction.
There are many oider people
Who wish to maintain their in-
dependence and prefer to have
their own apartments. However,
many are forced to live far away
from their families and spend
much time alone. If such a proj-
ect became a reality, the older
folks could have their indepen-
dence- and privacy when they
wish, and yet, if they so desire,
they can visit with people their
own age in the lounge.
Perhaps a progratn service
could be worked out with the
Jewish Center or some other or-
ganization and possibly cafete-
ria service could be introduced.
Financially, all this could be a
self-supporting project, and spir-
itually it could be most satisfy-
ing. —Grandaughter.
