Brandeis Foundation
Elects Dewey D. Stone
NEW YORK, (JTA) — A new
board of the Brandeis Youth
Foundation, comprised of Jewish
community leaders from coast to
coast, was announced by Abra-
ham Goodman, national presi-
dent.
The Foundation sponsors the
Brandeis Camp Institute, now
located on a 2,200-acre ranch at
Santa Susana, Calif., 35 Miles
northwest of Los Angeles. The
camp program, as evolved 15
years ago by the late Justice
Louis D. Brandeis and its direc-
tor, Dr. Shlomo Hardin, is de-
signed to prepare college-age
men and women from all over
the nation for leadership in
their Jewish communities.
Two four-week institutes will
be held this summer. Also spon-
sored at the Brandeis Camp In-
stitute is Camp Alonim, its jun-
ior division for boys and girls,
and "Weekends of Living Juda-
ism" for adult leaders.

The Jewish Agency has been
notified that a Joint Aliya Com -
mittee has been set up by Pro-
gressive Zionist League - Hash-
omer Hatzair, Americans f a r
Progressive Israel and Hashomer
Hatzair Zionist Youth, and has
begun functioning to increase
aliya from America. Hashomer
Hatzair is one of the two Zion-
ist organizations maintaining a
hachshara — a pioneer training
farm for Israel — and recently
celebrated at Hightstown, N.J.,
25 years of continuous operation
of the training program from
which more than 1,000 young
men and' women have gone to
Israel.
The committee was set up at
a conference of the three organ-
izations with the participation
of Zvi Lurie, member of the Jew-
ish Agency Executive in New
York and head of the Aliya De-
partment.

daily, "Morning Freiheit."
Invoking the Fifth Amen-
mendment to the ConstitutiOn,
Novick refused to say whether
he is a Communist and declared
that the hearing was a viola-
tion of freedom of the press.
Senator William E. Jenner, Re-
publican of Indiana, who pre-
sided, stated that the "Freiheit,"
contrary to American pol-
icy, was opposed to rearming
West Germany. Novick said
that the West German army
would be under the leadership of
"war criminals" who slaughtered
Jews in World War II.
