who has just returned to his
post at Hillel at the University
of Chicago, and another son
who is on the faculty of the
University of Toledo.

Munich Jews Hold First Public
Zionist Meeting Since 1938 '
MUNICH, (JTA)—For the first
time in 17 years a large public
Zionist meeting was held in this
city r e c e n t l y. The meeting
was held at the German Museum
here, under the chairmanship of
Sen. Siegfried Neuland.

Sol Kasdan, UHS
Educator, Dies

Sol Kasdan, one of Detroit's
best known educators, died Tues-
day after a brief illness. Funer-
al services were held at Kauf-
man Chapel Thursday.
Surviving him are his wife,
Sarah; a daughter, Mrs. Ber-
nard Bladen; two grandchildren.
For 36 years, Mr. Kasdan was
associated with the United He-
brew Schools.
Under his direction, many of
Detroit's leading men and wom-
en have acquired their Jewish
education. He was known na-
tionwide as an outstanding
"lamdan"—as a scholar and as
one of the ablest of the local
Hebraists and Talmudists.
Born in Minsk, Russia, where
he studied in the Yeshiva, Mr.
Kasdan settled as a youth in
Liverpool, England, and taught
in the Jewish schools there. He
came to the United States in.
1908 and was a teacher in one
of the leading Talmud Torahs
there. He came to Detroit in
1919 and had been teaching here
since then.
