Report Basis Exists for

City of Hope's New Cobalt 'Bomb'

Austrian Negotiations
The Committee for Jewish
Claims on Austria reported that
a basis exists for further nego-
tiations on legislative and ad-
rninstrative measures to allevi-
ate the needs of Jewish victims
of the Nazi regime in Austria
particularly those who were
forced to emigrate.
This evaluation followed a
meeting in Paris of the joint
executive board of the commit-
tee, under the chairmanship of
Dr. Nahum Goldmann.

There could be no more
climax to the baseball
career of Sid Gordon than his
return to the New York Giants,
as was recently announced in a
big press splash.
For Gordon played some of
his best years with the •Giants
before he started • making the
rounds in the National League.
Sid, a boy from Brooklyn,
joined the Giants in 1941 and
took a leave of absence to go
into service during the war. He
returned with the Giant club
and contributed a substantial
share to the power-hitting of
the team in the tail end of the
40s. The memorable season for
DETROIT JEWISH NEWS-19 Sid was 1948 when he belted a
grand total of 30 homers, which
Friday, June 3, 1955
still stands •as his yearly record
during his career in the majors.
Since then he has played with
the Braves both in Boston and
Milwaukee, and then Pittsburgh.
It was from Pittsburgh that

AN EXAMPLE of the hard

shown a week ago Thursday
morning by Sol Hoberman as
further proof. of why he is also
one of the top poppy salesmen
in the local area. . . . And its
a wonder where the past JWV
Department of Michigan com-
mander gets all his energy! . . .
He was busy as a bee hustling
with the agility of a tight rope
dancer on- an acrobatic spree as
he hopped on and off DSR buses
all along Dexter .. . Solly would
jump on a bus one way, do his
poppy canvasing, and then jump
off to grab another in the op-
posite direction . . . He did this
all morning, being well received
aboard the coaches,. .. and the
cooperative drivers got a kick
out of watching him bounce
around doing his very good deed.
