ADL Meets Jointly in South Haven

The parley will open the night
of June 4 with a dinner. Astar
will be featured speaker at a
luncheon session on June 5. A
resident of Palestine since 1933,
Astar served on the Palestine
Police Force and the Jewish
Agency. He has been in his
present post since 1952.
Assisting Levine in planning
the conference will be vice-pres-
idents. Irving Fidelman, of South
Haven; Edward Krause, of Mus-
kegon; and Alvin Winkelman,
of Bay City.
Opening proceedings a day
earlier, but holding simultaneous
meetings in South Haven will be
the Michigan Advisory Board of
Bnai Brith's Anti-Defamation
League.
C. Allan Harlan, president,
Harlan Electric Co., Detroit, will
receive the Michigan Democratic
Legacy Award and an inscribed
silver bowl. The award is made
annually at the MRAB's Insti-
tute on Human Relations.
Zola Rosenfeld, of Jackson,
chairman of the awards com-
mittee, will make the presenta-
tion to Harlan, it is announced
by Benjamin M. Rose, Wyan-
dotte, chairman of MRAB, and
Julius Reznik, of Detroit, Insti-
tute chairman.
Harlan, a trustee of Bethany
College, Fisk University and
Hampton Institute, is an active
member of the
Cross,
Red
Junior Achieve-
ment, American
Association for
the United Na-
tions, Detroit
Urban League,
USO, Boy Scouts
of America and
other leading
organizations.
He is vice-
president of th
special gifts flarlan
committee of the Negro College
Fund, Inc., and has been active
in programs on behalf of Bran-
deis University.
The award presentation will
be a feature of the Institute, at
which over 250 Michigan resi-
dents will discuss civil rights and
human relations. Harold Brav-
erman, ADL's national commu-
nity action department director,
will be one of the featured
speakers.

Brother One of 14
In Israel From USSR
Scores of Allied Jewish Cam-
paign volunteers a r e visiting
prospects and division chairmen
and meeting with section chair-
men and workers to' assure full
coverage of all slips within their
individual divisions as an ambi-
tious mop-up program continues
in full-swing.
Discussing the intensive mop-
up operations, John E. Lurie,
campaign chairman, declared:

not seen each other for 33

Cantor Sonenklar called his
brother on Monday and they
chatted over the trans-con-
tinental phone for 20 min-
utes.
Mr. Wasser is in Tel Aviv
with his son, who is studying
at the Tel Aviv Gymnasium.
Cantor Sonenklar hopes to
go to Israel in the fall to see
his brother.

At the May meeting of the
Detroit Mr. and Mrs. Club of
City of Hope, the following of-
ficers were elected: Ralph Sny-
der, president; Joe Mossok, vice-
president; Sara Fishkind, secre-

sion, under the chairmanship of
Daniel A. Laven and Mandell L.
Berman, is out ahead. with the
food division, under Julius Meh-

sion. American Jewish Congress,
and will be held simultaneously
