Vigorous Bond campaign plans announced by Dr. Schwartz—Detailed JTA Teletype Story on Page 2- Detroit chalked up another year with a $4,000,000-plus income for the Allied Jewish Campaign, when the current drive officially ended Tuesday evening with an as- surance that last year's income will be more than matched this year. Isidore Sobeloff, executive director of the Jewish Welfare Federation, who has directed all of the eight four-million-plus drives which began in 1948, in an analysis of the 1955 efforts, at Tuesday's concluding c ampaign meeting, at the Woodward Jewish Center, expressed certainty that last year's accomplishments will be equalled and that there is better than an even chance that the $4,000,000 sum will be surpassed by the continuing solicitations by workers who. refuse to call a halt to their. efforts until all prospects have been contacted. Mr. Sobeloff announced that "flying squadrons" of volunteer workers will contact a large number of Detroiters whose . pledges have not as yet been turned in. He said there is hope that the stretching of activities by these volunteers augurs well for ad- ditional encouraging incomes to make it possible for Detroit to attain the bare minimum of $4,500,000 necessary for the support of all the local, national and overseas agencies included in the campaign,. and for increases to the United Jewish Appeal for the sup- port of Israel and for overseas relief. While Mr. Sobeloff's report indicated that the returns as of Tuesday evening were a few thousands under $3,800,000, he gave assurances that the 1954 income of $4,150,- 000 will more than be matched because of certain monies due to come in: $200,000 from prospective givers of $1,000 each or more and more than $200,000 from prospective givers under $1,000. "There is every likelihood that we can pass last year's figure," Mr. Sobeloff said. • His assurances found substantiation in several factors at the meeting: in the pledg- es of those reporting for their divisions that they will continue their campaign efforts until all prospects are reached and in assertions like these: "We look forward to surpass- ing last year's total"; "we are confident th at we will achieve last year's goal"; "the campaign isn't over until we finish the job"; and many_ similar expressions of confidence in the achievement of Allied Cainpaign the ultimate goal.
