Moses Weiswasser, of 2303 Tay-
lor, one of Detroit's most promi-
nent Orthodox leaders, died May
11 at the age of 79.
Considered one of the stalwart
citizens of the early Orthodox

He had been president of the
Jewish Children's Home, super-
intendent of the Jewish Home
for Aged, _ president of Cong.
Beth Tefilo Emanuel and one of
the founders of Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah.
Services for Mr. Weiswasser
were held at Ira Kaufman Chap-
el on Thursday, with interment
in Ma_chpelah Cemetery.
He leaves three sons, George,
Aaron and Avery; a_ daughter,
Bernice; a brother, Peter; a sis-
ter, Mrs. Minnie Leipsitz; and
five grandchildren.

To Get HUC Degrees

CINCINNATI—In recognition of
their achievements, nine distin-
guished Americans will receive
honorary degrees from Hebrew
Union College-Jewish Institute
of Religion at the school's 71st
commencement and ordination
service here June 4. Dr. Nelson
Glueck, president of the College-
Institute, will confer the de-
grees in ceremonies at the Rock-
dale Avenue Temple.
Dr. Sylvan D. Schwartzman,
professor of Jewish education at
the College-Institute, will deliv-
er the baccalaureate address on
the subject "Emphasis for To-
day's Rabbinate."

Kaplan will deliver the keynote
address at the annual meeting
of the National Jewish Welfare
Board—sponsored Jewish Book
Council of .America, next Tues-

House of New York's Congrega-
tional Shearith Israel.

dedicated to the observance of
the 750th anniversary of the
death of Maimonides, author of
the "Guide . x) the Perplexed," a
philosophical defense 'of Juda-
ism, and the "Mishneh Torah,"

Prof. Boehm Turns Over

Congress Prize to Community

FRANKFURT, (JTA) —Prof es-
sor Franz Boehm, who was one
of four winners of the American
Jcwish Congress' Stephen Wise
Awards, has donated the $1,000
prize connected with that award
to the local Jewish community.
