Bigots Exposed in
Newspaper Series

"Organized bigotry is on the
upswing in America," according
to a series of articles appearing
in Scripps - Howard newspapers
throughout the nation. The ar-
ticles pointed out that the hate
peddlers, though not so serious
or obvious a menace as in the
1930's, are growing bolder and
reaching an expanding audience.
The series, written by Jack
Steele, reported that Gerald L.
K. Smith, identified as the "No.
professional bigot, had in-
dicated receipts averaging over
$185,000 a year for the last three
years, as compared to $113,000
ill 1950.
Steele found that most of the
current hate hucksters use anti-
Communism as a cover for their
propaganda, regarding it as "an
effective sugar-coating to make
the bitter pill of hate palatable
to some Americans."
The series warned that, "un-
less checked by exposure and ed-
ucation, they (the bigots) may
again grow strong enough to
subject the nation to a hate
bath."

Israel Opens Three Labor
Exchanges for Arab Workers

JERUSALEM, (JTA)-The Is-
Labor Ministry opened
three more labor exchanges for
Arab workers, bringing the na-
tional total to nine. The new
centers were opened in Haifa,
Lydda and Jerusalem. The oth-
ers are located in Acre, Jaffa
and Nazareth and in t1;qee agri-
cultural centers. .
