Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey of

Minnesota -said. -
The statement corrected an
erroneous impression that Sen.
Humphrey might be attempting
to interfere with kosher slaugh-
tering through the proposed bill,
which is now before the Senate
Agriculture Committee.
Urged by the Humane Society,
the bill indicates no objection to
the Jewish method of slaughter
because the society feels the
present method is humane. The
bill contains' the following spe-
cific wording:
"The requirements of this
section shall not apply to any
individual who is duly authorized
by an ordained rabbi of the Jew-
ish faith to: serve as a shochet
while such individual is engaged
in the slaughtering of livestock
or poultry in accordance with
the practice of such religious
faith."

THE VAAD HORABBONIM

is appealing to all Jewish Householders to.whom the Kashruth of their

homei is sacred and dear, that they be very careful and cautious in

buying their Kosher meats and poultry. Pleaie, always bear in mind
the following:

* TOPS
*iN QUALITY
AND TASTE

1.

Even

2.

When buying Kosher meat, make sure that it has been washed
properly before the expiration of three days.

3.

Make sure that the meat you are buying was "traibered"
properly, that all non-Kosher fat and veins have been removed.

4.

When buying "rolled beef" make sure that it was made "Kosher"
(soaked and salted properly) before it was rolled, otherwise it
is not "Kosher."

5.

When buying ground meat, make sure that the meat was made
"Kosher" (soaked and salted properly) before it was ground,
otherwise it is not "Kosher."

if there be a "Kosher" stamp or tag on the meat, unless
the place of purchase is under supervision, and all rules and-
regulations strictly adhered to, it cannot be considered "Kosher."

6.

When buying poultry, make sure that the fowl
has on its wing the red-white seal, issued for
that purpose by the Council of Orthodox Rabbis
of Detroit. The seal must be locked and intact,
whole and unbroken. Please do not trust
anyone who breaks the ruling of the Detroit
rabbinate and issues slaughtered poultry with-
out the proper "Kosher" seal. The "Kosher"
seal is your guarantee for the Kashruth of the
fowl.

7.

Do not buy cut-up chickens, unless each piece
of the chicken has a "plombe" "Kosher" seal
attached on it by a "Mashgiach" from the
Voad Horabbonim. Any piece of a chicken
without the proper "Kosher" seal is not to be
considered as Kosher.
