Sunday will be observed
throughout Michigan as Spirit-
ual Foundations Day, it was an-
nounced by Dr. Richard C. Hertz,
senior rabbi of Temple Beth El
and chairman of the celebration
in Wayne County of 1955 Mich-
igan Week.
The church committee, headed
by Rabbi Hertz, is bringing to
the attention of the people of
Michigan the rich resources of
available churches and syna-
gogues which enhance the cul-
tural and spiritual life of people
of all faiths.
Dr. Hertz commented that
churches and synagogues in De-
troit stand as landmarks by
which people of this community
steer their passage through life
and chart their courses in so-
ciety. Religion is like a light-
house, he said, sighted by a ship
in a stormy sea. The lighthouse
does not save the ship. It only
points the way to salvation.
Dr. Hertz called attention to
the religious revival going on in
our time.
"All religions are dedicated to
the regeneration of moral power,
both in the individual and in the
community. These are the
spiritual foundations of 1 i f e
which are being highlighted in
Michigan's observance of
Spiritual Foundations Day on
Sunday," he said,

incoming president of Cong.
Ahavas Achim at a membership
meeting.
The near completion of the
Cambridge sanctuary, which ad-
joins the present building, will
permit the synagogue to offer
membership to 250 new fami-
lies, Dr. Wiener said.
Louis J. Seiton, membership
chairman, and Morton Paris,
announced that 40 families re-
cently joined the congregation,
and that with the increased fa-
cilities many more families have
made inquiries.
Membership in the congrega-
tion, Seiton explained, entitles
a family to seating on the High
Holidays, free Sunday school tui-
tion and use of the synagogue
for Bar Mitzvah.
Membership is available in the
Men's Club, Sisterhood and
Youth Group, all affiliate con-
gregational organizations. Rabbi
Jacob Chinitz is spiritual leader
of the congregation, and Rabbi
Joseph Hirsch is • school prin-
cipal.
