Oak-Woods Bakery Salesman
To Vacation Next Passover

By the Oak-Woodser
With Passover now gone by,
and bread again making its ap-
pearance on the household table,
there comes the story of one of
the many bakery salesmen who
frequent the Oak-Woods area,
selling their wares from house
to house:
One in particular, the one who
brings the bread to our little mis-
sus, claims his business dropped
away many, many percentage
points during the eight days • of
Passover.
Next - year, he vows he is going
to do one of two things—either
take his vacation at that time of
year, or try to get a franchise on
matzo products.
From the response we have

gotten from a number of read-
ers, it would appear as if our
story of last week on Jimmy's
first seder was not such an ex-
clusive item. In quite a num-
ber of Oak-Woods homes many
a gentile child and their par-
ents were present at sedorim
conducted in the community.

Oak Park is certainly becom-

a cement block in place of a
straight road.

And, we shamefully admit that
until this month we did not know
there was an engineering scheme
behind it. Now, instead of cuss-
ing our city fathers, we give them
our admiration.
For instead of designing the
jog to boost power steering on
new automobiles, it is intended
as a truck trap, to keep heavy
trucks from entering and break-
ing up the concrete pavement.

Bird Watcher Scene
In 'Room and Borscht'

The annual show, being staged
by South Oakland County Chap-
ter of Hadassah at 8:30 p.m.,
April 26 and 27, in Mumford
High School, is even for the
birds.
The musical - comedy, "Room
and Borscht," features a bird
watcher scene that is said to be
ane of the most riotous the
group has ever undertaken.
Playing the parts of the bird-
watchers are Mrs. Harry Weiner,
Mrs. Herbert Josephson, Mrs.
Eugene Kahn and Mrs. William
Marcus.
"Room and Borscht" is di-
rected by Mrs. Edward Levine,
who has directed all SOC Hadas -
sa.h shows. She has herself
played the lead in Claudia,
given by the Woods Theater
Group. Her husband, Dr. Edward
Levine, played the male lead in
both previous SOC shows, and
this year plays the role of J. P.
Moron.
Tickets for "Room and
Borscht" are available by call-
ing Mrs. Gerald Shumer, LI. 6-
1199; Mrs. Alex Etkin, LI. 3-8386;
or Mrs. Sherwin Davidson, LI.
5-4559.

ing one of Michigan's most civic-
minded communities. Although
only 35 percent of the voters
turned out at the polls this
month, we are told this is a good
omen in an off-year election.
The voters, of course, passed a
number of resolutions that will
lead to numerous improvements,
especially the almost $1,000,000
voted for a civic center which
will include a municipal park
area, library and swimming pool
that converts to an ice skating
rink in the winter.
Even with the tax hikes that
are bound to come, these are
steps in the right direction to-
ward Oak Park's boast of "The
city with a future."

Members of the Berkley High
Spectator staff attended a jour-
nalism conference at Highland
Park High School recently. This
was the first student-conducted
meeting and consisted of panel
discussions led by staff members
of the various schools.
Ricky Schiller headed the
group discussing the news story.
The conference was sponsored by
the Quill & Scroll Society. Herb
Sosnick and Judy Stutz were
among other staff members at-
tending.
Florida attracted many SOO
students during Spring vacation.
Rose Ellen and Ilene Cohen, Judy
Zell, Linda Kayes, Judy Rattner,
Joanie Kaatz, Kennie Collier and
Sarah Weiner are the lucky kids
in the sunny south. Ricky
Schiller is spending the week in
New York, and Herb Roberts is
vacationing in Pittsburgh.
A nurses aid program has been
set up at Oak Park High. Girls
in the 9th and 10th grades" are
being trained to treat minor first
aid cases in a course given by
the school nurse. Sharon Levin
and Roberta Zipser are among
the promising student nurses.
The Home Ec department at
Oak Park High, under the super-
vision of Mary Sklar, has been
working on interior decorating.
Already the girls have made
mtny items for their own homes.
The first yearbook put out by
the Temple Israel High School
Youth Group will be circulated
at the end of May. Elinor Mill-
man and Judy Hack, co-editors,
have worked hard to make this
project a success.

Camp Shor, summer camp
operated by Young Israel at
Aurora, Ind., will be under new

to Samuel Platt, chairman of
the Detroit camp committee.

cipal of the Canton, 0., Hebrew
School, will be director, and
Marvin J. Goldish, Yeshiva Uni-
