nity is invited •to observe the
seventh anniversary of Is-
rael's independence at a pro-
gram April 30, in Mumford
High School.
Announcement of the cele-
bration was made. by Sidney
M. Shevitz, president of the
Jewish Community Council,
and Irving Schlus,sel, president
of the Zionist Council of De-
troit, under whose joint aus-
pices the program is planned.
Mordecai Kidron, Deputy
Permanent Representative of
Israel at the United Nations,
will be guest speaker. A mu-
sical and dramatic program
also is planned. Admission is
free.

Leonard Kasle, well known Detroiter, was elected a member
of the Detroit Board of Education,' for the short term, at the
election on Monday.
A graduate of the University of Michigan. Mr. Kasle was an
officer and an active leader in the Serve Our Schools committee.
He was ordained rabbi at the Jewish Institute of Religion and was -
a Hillel Foundations director before joining his father, Abe Kasle,
as an officer in the Kasle Steel Corp. •
