Recognition was given recently
by the American Cancer Society
to one of its most important
services when 250 representa-
tives of 600 cancer sewing groups
were honored at an open house.
Helping to plan the affair were
Mesdames I. B. GINSBERG,
SAM GINSBERG and ANNA
SCHNEIDER. Over a million
dressings were dispensed free of
charge in this area last year,
primarily for patients being
cared for at home.

Announcement has been made
by the DETROIT EDISON CO.
that two scholarships for Wayne
University's academic year 1955-
56 are available to students in
engineering and business admin-
istration. Selection of the recipi-
ents will be made by the Univer-
sity on the basis of scholastic
ability, character and personal-
ity, citizenship, extra-curricular
activities, seriousness of pur-
pose and financial need.

This season will launch the
New York Philharmonic Orches-
tra, conducted by Dimitri Mitro-
poulos, on its first cross-coun-
try tour in 34 years, the first
concert of the tour to be pre-
sented in Masonic Auditorium

Fathers of students at JAMES
VERNOR SCHOOL will present
an "Old Time Theater" show
and novelty night April 20, un-
der sponsorship of the school's

PTA. Sports figures and other
ceilebrities will stage two per-
formances at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.,
featuring old-time movies and
vaudeville routines. Dancing will
follow in the school gym. Do-it-
yourself exhibits of hobbies and
baking and knitting entries also
will be highlighted. Proceeds
will provide extra - curricular
equipment for use of students
not provided by regular Board

will speak on "Raising a Men-

chairman of the Committee of
Landsmanshaften for the Jew-
ish National Fund, and Morris
Malin was named secretary.
The provisional committee
headed by Harry Kaminer, of
Berditchever Aid Society—to-
gether with William Altman,
Eishishker; Sam Belkin, Odes-
ser; Israel Burnstein, Miawer;
Louis Cohan, Keshenever-Bes-
sarabier; Harris T. Glickman,
David Horodoker; Sam Gorn-
bein, Yiddish Folks Farein;
Louis Rosenberg, Chaim - xreiz-
mann; Harry Rosenthal, Cher-
nigover & Loyover; M. K. Ro-
senthal, Odesser, and. Sam Yus-
ter, Jewish Fraternal Club—de-
vised a plan, which was adopted

officially at the Landsmanshaf-
ten panel at the JNF Confer-
ence on Nov. 9, 1954: The Lands-
manshaften will plant a forest
of 30,000 security trees in Israel,
to be known as he Detroit
Landsmanshaften Forest. To
make up the 30,000 trees each
society is asked to sponsor a
grove of 1000 trees as its share.
The. panel at the conference
also elected a praesidium pro-
tein of five members, H. M. Ka-
miner, Berditchever; Morris Ma-
lin, Korostichever; Harry Ro-
senthal, Chernigover; Isidore
Sosnick, Turover, and Louis Ro-
senberg, Chaim Weizmann So-
I ciety.

will meet at the W. C. Center
tonight, for a short business
meeting and to discuss the ob-
servance of Passover.
On April 8, the Women's Divi-
sion of the Workmen's Circle
will sponsor a Third Seder at
the WC Center at 9 p.m. Saul
Maltz, director of the WC
Schools, announces that the
children of the schools will read
from a modern Hagadah and
the audience will participate.
Shoshana Friedman, WC School
music teacher, soloist, will sing
traditional Passover songs.
Branch 463, the Detroit Trade
Union Branch of WC, will meet
April 8, 9 p.m., at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Downs, 16239
Muirland, to discuss the "Gua-
ranteed Employment Plan."
Parents of the Workmen's Cir-
cle Sunday School and members
of Branch 460 will meet with
their children Sunday morning,
April 10, at the WC Center, for
an observance of Passover.

week that a group of Detroiters
have purchased the 1,000-room
Hollenden Hotel in Cleveland.
The syndicate 'of Detroit pur-
chasers includes Louis Berry,
David M. Miro, Allen D. Kramer
and George D. Seyburn.
This group owns also the
Wolverine and • Madison-Lenox
Hotels in Detroit, Hotel Hayes
in Jackson and nine hotels in
other cities.

Junior Congregation
Leads Sabbath Service

Sabbath services at. Adas Sha-
lom Synagogue will be held at
6 p.m., today, and at 8:45 a.m.,
Saturday, the latter service to
be conducted by members of the
Junior Congregation.
Donna - Hammerstein and
Sheldon Kirsch will deliver ser-
monettes, while Marshall Char-
lip chants the Shacharis prayers
and Merwin Goldsmith serves as
cantor for the Musaf service.
Other particpants include Ira
Harris, Ralph Sachs, Leon Wald-
man, Sheldon Kirsch, Jerrold
Lax, Marshall Charlip, Ralph
Ryback, Sheldon Lax; Lawrence
Allan and Jeffrey Tigay, who
will conduct the Torah service.

will lead in responsive reading,
and special prayers will be re-
