Mrs. Altschul Gives $100,000 Fund to Barnard
NEW YORK, (JTA)
Mrs.
Frank Altschul, a trustee of
Barnard College, has made a
gift of $100,000 to the college
for the establishment of the
Millicent Carey McIntosh Pro-
fessorship of English Fund. At
Friday, April 1, 1955
Greetings on Passover
the same time, she announced
her intention of eventually in-
creasing the endowment to
$250,000. Until the fund yields
sufficient income for the salary
of a full professor, Mrs. Altschul
will make up ,the difference.

the charming new book, "The
Second Ford Treasury of Favor-
ite Recipes from Famous Eating
Places, published by Simon &
Schuster (630 5th, NY 20). there
is this tale:
"Whether it is kept on the
cookbook shelf or in the glove
compartment of the car, this
handy-sized guide will be con-
sulted often. At home it is an
inspiration for good cooking:
away from home it is a guide to
good dining."
That describes this fine book,
dedicated to the Ford and Lin-
coln-Mercury dealers. in proper
fashion. Compiled by Nancy
Kennedy. Arthur Lougee being
the art director, this book con-
tains recipes that were tested in
the kitchens of the Women's
City Club of Detroit. As indicat-
ed, it lists eating places as well
as favorite recipes.
In the area covering North
Central America. four famous
restaurants, in four Michigan
cities, are represented by four
noteworthy recipes. •
Al Green's, one of the best
known eating places in this en-
tire area, located on East Jef-
ferson Avenue in Grosse Pointe
Park, is portrayed with a
painting by Don Silverstein
and is represented by the fol-
lowing Chicken Cacciatore
favorite dish:

Olive oil
2 large onions, chopped
1 'Pound mushrooms. sliced
1 No. 21/2 can tomatoes
1 clove garlic
1 tablespoon oregano
1 tablespoon salt
Black pepper. to taste
1 cup Rhine wine
1 cuo chicken stock
cup pitted. sliced green olives
mastaccioli noodles
Saute chicken. in olive oil till
brown. Add onions, mushrooms.
tomatoes. garlic. oregano, salt,
pepper. Brown slightly. Add wine
and simmer for 20 minutes. Add
chicken stock. reduce heat and
add sliced olives. Serve with
noodles. Serves 6.
Another Michigan establish-
ment is the summer vacation
spot, Wabun, on U. S. 23, at Os-
coda, to which we are indebted
through the Ford book, for this
Tuna Noodle Casserole:
1 small onion, sliced thin
Butter
1 can or 2 cups homemade fried noodles
1 can tuna, 13 ounces
1 can mushroom soup
Pepper
IA pound potato chips, crushed
Saute onion in butter until it
is a golden brown. Place half the
noodles in a greased casserole
dish, spread with layer of onion,
tuna fish and mushroom soup.
Top with remaining noodles and
sprinkle top with pepper and
potato chips. Bake in 325 degree
oven for about a half hour or
until thick and brown. Serves 4.

Hope 6,000 Immigrants
To Arrive in U.S. in 1 55
NEW YORK. (JTA) — About
6,000 Jewish immigrants will
enter the United States in 1955,
it was estimated by the New
York Association for New Amer-
leans.
The great majority are ex-
pected to settle in New York
City, and it is anticipated that
80 percent of them will be in
need of NYANA aid.
During 1955, NYANA's family
service department is expected
to provide services to ..some 820
individual families, representing
about 2,450 men, women and
children.
