JOSETTE BRAWERMAN, 10,
born in occupied France while
her parents were in hiding, is
shown here on her arrival in the
U.S. She immigrated here with
her widowed mother through the
aid of United HIAS Service. Mrs.
Brawerman, a Belgian, fled to
France with her first husband
in 1940. He was later' captured
and executed. Mrs. Brawerman,
however, escaped, and was hid-
den by Christians near Paris.
She married again, and in 1944
Josette was born. Mrs. Brawer-
man's second husband, a physi-
cian, died in 1951 of a heart at-
tack. United HIAS Service ob-
tained affidavits from the wi-
dow's cousin, Julius Taplband,
in helping the Brawermans to
come here. They live in Los
Angeles.
