Ex-DP Businessmen To Get $1,000,000 in Credits in Germany Tunisians Seek Jewish Support Against French TUNIS, (JTA)—Jews living in Southern Tunisia have been placed in an embarrassing situ- ation by the dispute between the French authorities and the Neo Destour—nationalist party. The Neo-Destour, which has demonstrated its friendship for the Jews in the past, has asked the Jews in Southern Tunisia to si g n a petition calling for the end of French military rule in that area. The French authori- ties disapprove of the petition. The Jewish leaders, who find it essential to remain on good terms with both forces, are now faced with what appears to be an insoluble situation. The French-language news- paper, "Petit Matin" of Tunis, founded and owned by Simon Zana, a French Jew, has. been acquired by Andre Barouch, also a Jew, but one closely associated with Moslem Neo-Destour move- ment. In 1952 M. Barouch was arrested and deported from Tunis to Southern Tunisia by the French authorities. The necessary amount, ap- proxi m at ely $250,000, will be made available to the Bonn Ministry for Refugees out of re- maining Marshall Plan counter- part funds.
