Passover's Message Is One
Of Security in Our Children,
Boasting a writing team of 10
bard-working men and women
which has spent fully 2,000
hours preparing its script, the
South Oakland County Chapter
of Hadassah is now in the final
stages of rehearsal for its annu-

and Borscht."
The musical comedy, to be en-
acted by members and their hus-
bands, will be presented at 8:30
p.m., April 26 and 27, at Mum-
ford High School. The writers,
also members, based the story
on vacation life in a Catskill
Mountain resort.
Included among the writing
team were Mrs. Harmon Dix,
Mrs. Sherwin Davidson, Irving
Green, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Jay,
Mrs. Aaron Lebow, Mrs. Herbert
Levin, Dr. and Mrs. Allan Marks,
Dr. and Mrs. Maurice Reizen,
Mrs. Stanley Sax and Mrs. Alan
Soskin, all of Oak Park and
Huntington Woods.
One of the parts they created,
that of Madame LaZagne, will
feature Frances Kaye, who has
appeared with the Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra, the Leonard
Smith Band at Belle Isle conceits
and with the Detroit Municipal
Opera Guild.
Each of the two nights of the
show, a free weekend vacation
for two will be awarded, courte-

Travel Bureau is furnishing the
transportation.
Show tickets are available by

By the Oak-Woodser
Did you ever wonder what the
next generation of American
Jewry will be like? Will it con-
tinue the long heritage that has
enabled the Jewish people to
survive for almost 6,000 years?
Or perhaps, is the flame flicker-
ing and the spark growing dim?
Many people—educators, rab-
bis and lay-leaders—would like
the answers to these questions,
for they apparently dog us at
every educational turn.
Every Passover lately, how-
ever, has provided us with en-
couragement, and if you will
excuse us if we delve a little
into clairvoyance, we would
like to venture the prediction
that Jewry has little reason
for concern about our young
people of today.
The reason for our enthusiasm
at Passover time is the tremen-
dous increase in the number of
model sedorim being sponsored
in the religious schools of the
city and now in the suburbs.
Almost every synagogue, with
its religious school, plans to
have or has already sponsored
its model seder. And many of
the sedorim are being conducted
by the children so that their
parents may learn the proper
way of conducting a seder, lest
they have forgotten.
At the Young Israel Center of
Oak-Woods on Sunday (see
story elsewhere on this page),
children in the Hebrew class will
sponsor this kind of a program.
Called a "Son Shows Dad"
event, youngsters in the Hebrew
class will perform all the holi-
day ritual, complete with songs
and festivity, so that in the

Passover is only one of the
times when the youngsters
show their parents the way.
The scene is probably best
illustrated at this time of the
year, but in numerous other
instances, Jewish children are
learning our customs and
traditions and laws, the bet-
ter to continue the Jewish
heritage.
That is why we are not too
concerned about the future of
American Jewish youth, and
why we feel secure in the
knowledge that they will con-
tinue our traditions. Our hope,
however, is predicated on Jew-
ish education for all youngsters.
The chief responsibility of the
community today is to keep our
youth, now instilled with the
beauty of the Jewish ceremon-
ies, always aware of their sig-
nificance.
Once this is done, perhaps
they will not forget as quickly as
their parents.
