Requests No Change
In Coroner's Office
Editor, The Jewish News:
The people of Wayne County
will vote Monday upon a proposal
to adopt Act No. 181 of the Pub-
lic Acts of 1953 which will abol-
ish the Cornoner's Office and in
its place substitute a County
Medical Supervisor,
A reading of the law does not
indicate any improvement over
the present Cornoner's system.
It does not correct any ineffi-
ciencies claimed to exist nor does
it, as has been claimed, stream-
line the operation of this vital
department .. •
Even though two cornoners are
replaced-by one medical exam-
iner there would be no savings,
since each coroner receives $9,000
a year and it -is expected that a
medical examiner will receive
not less than $25,000 a year.
The new law would merely
change the name of the officer
from Coroner to Medical Exam-
iner. His functions would remain
precisely the same, and his ap-
pointment and removal . could
come only at the vote of the
Board of County Supervisors,
none of whom are elected to
position by the people.
Dr. B. M. Schutzman.
Samuel Brezner.
