Florida Town Cancels
Brotherhood Program

MIAMI — The Anti-Defama-
tion League of Bnai Brith this
week called for an official in-
vestigation of "threats and pres-
sures" which forced cancellation
of a Brotherhood Week rally in
nearby Hialeah. The affair was
to have been on a non-segre-
gated basis, white and Negro
children jointly participating.
The rally was abruptly called
off when its sponsors decided
that an "explosive situation"
had developed. Fear was ex-
pressed that physical harm
might come to the participating
children. The sponsors were
various Hialeah gommunity
groups, including the local Bnai
Brith lodge, and a number of
churches in the community.

Budgeting Conference Recommends
Study of Jewish Cultural Projects

The Large City Budgeting
Conference, at its sessions,
March 18, 19 and 20 in New York
City, recommended to the Coun-
cil of Jewish Federations and
Welfare Funds that the latter
undertake a national study of
Jewish cultural projects in be-
half of its member communities.
The recommendation comes
after two years of committee de-
liberation and examination of
the work of agencies in the cul-
tural field now supported by wel-
fare funds.
Three ;epresentatives of the
Detroit Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion participated in the confer-
ence with 45 delegates of the
18 member communities. They
are Hy Safran and Max J. Zivi-
an, members of the Federation

executive committee, and Wil-
liam Avrunin, associate director.
The conference, staffed by the
CJFWF, also reviewed the 1955
budgets and programs of the
National Jewish Welfare Board,
United BIAS Service, the Na-
tional Community Relations Ad-
visory Council, Jewish War Vet-
erans, Jewish Labor Commitiee
and American Jewish Congress.
In an informal discussion ses-
sion the conference met with Dr.
Joseph J. Schwartz, executive
vice-president of the United
Jewish Appeal. The LCBC makes
recommendations for the consid-
eration of its member welfare
funds in local communities.

The annual Histadrut Third Zionist member of the Israel
Seder, which serves each year as Knesset, speaking at the annual
the official conclusion of the , Purim celebration of the Zion-
ist Organization of Detroit,
expressed confidence that Israel
will continue to make progress
economically.
Pointing to the easing of
controls, as a result of General
Zionist efforts in Israel, Mr.
Zysman said that such a return
to a free enterprise economy in
Israel has resulted in the pres-
ent satisfactory conditions in
the land.
While deploring the Gaza in-
