Blondy Resolution Hits
McCarran-Walter Act

A resolution proposed to the
Michigan State Legislature by
Sen. Charles H. Blondy calls for
"prompt action" by the Con-
gresS of the United States to
"completely rewrite the McCar-
ran-Walter Immigration Act."
In Senate Concurrent Resolu-
tion No. 24, Sen. Blondy cites the
"protest by provisions of
the law by leaders of the Demo-
cratic and Republican parties,
including the President of the
United States, and by leaders of
religious, trade union, veterans,
civic and other organizations."
The resolution calls the law
"racist and discriminatory be-
cause of its national origins'
quota system (that) sacrifices
basic democratic principles and
limits immigration into our
country on the basis of race and
national origin."
The law "harasses ',liens and
naturalized citizens" now in the
United States, and makes exer-
cise of basic freedom possible
only at the risk of "subjecting
themselves to loss of citizenship
and deportation," the resolution
concludes.'

The first Jewish newspaper in
