Dr. Bunche Cites Danger
In Israel-Arab Tension

BUENOS AIRES, (JTA)-13-an-

situation was cited by Dr. Ralph
Bunche, United Nations Under
Secretary and former Palestine
mediator who negotiated t h e
Arab - Israel armistice a g r e e-
ment.
Dr. Bunche, currently visiting
Latin America on a UN mission,
noted that agreements negotiat-
ed by him six years ago are "a
bit long to be provisional." He
stressed that although a final
solution has not been readied,
the situation is such that final
solution can be obtained.
Dr. Bunche received a delega-
tion of DAIA, central repre-
sentative body of Argentine
Jewry, which expressed appre-
ciation for Dr. Bunche's media-
tion at Rhodes in 1948 and his
continued fight on racism.

Spend $40 Million on Malben

TEL AVIV, (JTA)-The Joint
Distribution Committee has in-
vested over $40,000,000 in. Malben,
its social welfare program for
the ill and aged in Israel, it was
reported here by Moses Beckel-
man, European director of JDC,
and Charles Passerman, JDC
director in Israel.
Malben, which celebrated its
fifth anniversary last week, was
greeted by Israel's president, Itz-
hak Ben Zvi.

Harry Zolkower Called
By Death, at Age of 63

Harry °Zolkower, 63, of 5221 W.
Outer Dr., died last Sunday whiltr
vacationing in Miami.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday at Kaufman Chapel,
Surviving him are his wife,.
Molly; sons, William and Mey-
er; a daughter, Mrs. Julius Stern,
and six grandchildren.
' Born in Austria, he came to
Detroit 45 years ago. For 39
years he operated Zolkower's De-
partment Store, one of the best
known stores on West Jefferson
Avenue.
A member of Shaarey Zedek,
the Zionist Organization and
other movements, he was well
known here, was active in con-
gregational `affairs; and was a
liberal contributor to worthy
causes. . He was vice-president
of Cong. Beth Abraham.

Services Held This Week

Services were held this week at
the Ira Kaufman Chapel for
Philip and Jennie Curtis. • Mr.
Curtis died on Feb. 18. Mrs.
Curtis passed away two days
later on Feb. 20. They had re-
sided at 16874 Mendota,
The Curtises • are survived by
one son, Steven. Mr. Curtis also
leaves three brothers, Michael
Curtis, and Rudolph and Charles
Kaiser.
