Editor, The Jewish News:
The headline on the front
page of The Jewish News of Feb.
•11, characterizing the recent
New York Orthodox protest
meetings against religious perse -
cution in Israel as being "anti-
Israel" smacks of McCarthyism,
Religious opposition to Israeli
government policies is no more
"anti-Israel" than is Democratic
party opposition to Eisenhower's
po licies "anti-American."

MRS. DAVID

L. POLK

In a double-ring, candlelight
ceremony, held recently 'at the
Rainbow Terrace, Elaine Claire
Pomerantz, daughter of Mr. and
and Mrs. Meyer Pomerantz, of
Appoline Ave., was united in
marriage to David L. Polk, son
of Mrs. Ada Polk, of Chicago
Blvd., and the late Mr. Jack
Polk. Rabbi Benjamin H. Gor-
relick officiated.
The bride wore a floor-length
gown of traditional white satin.
The bodice was closely fitted,
and was of chantilly lace over
satin, with a V neckline and lace
pointed sleeves. Her satin skirt
fell from a basque waist, and
was covered with layers of nylon
tulle extending into a short,
sweep train.
Her headpiece was a tiara
adorned with seed pearls and
tiny rhinestones, and held in
place her fingertip veil of illu-
sion. She carried a Bible cov-
ered with white roses and
streamers of lily-of-the-valley.
Bridesmaids were Annette
Linden and S u e Scheinberg,
with Adrienne Pomerantz, the
bride's sister, as junior brides-
maid. Sam Polk was his broth-,
er's best man, and ushers .in-
eluded Eugene Zweig and Eu-
gene Freedman. Ronald Morri-
son was junior usher. Ferne
Gaines was flower girl, while
serving as ring bearer was El-
liot Feldman.
Following a dinner and recep-
tion, the couple flew to Miami,
Fla. on their honeymoon.

Brotherhood Response
To Dr. • Hertz' Appeal

Dr. Richard C. Hertz, rabbi of
Temple Beth El and Department
Chaplain of the American
Legion in Michigan, recently
sent a routine letter to post
chaplains urging them to sup-
port the new Legion "Back to
God" movement by regularly at-
tending the church or synagogue
of their choice.
In response to the message,
Dr. Hertz is now in receipt of a
circular letter sent to all mem-
bers of Lt. Robert Clair Rogers
Post in Dearborn by its chap-
lain, Edward T. Carney.
In it, Carney, a Catholic, tells
his brother members how "I
kind of liked being asked by a
Rabbi to get a little closer to
God, and I hope it might im-
press you too."
Carney goes on to say, "This
is real religion, as I knew and
loved it in the service . . . when
I enjoyed talking to all (chap-
lains) as well as to any one par-
ticular denomination. I hope all
of you also enjoyed religion like
this, and I hope, too, that if you
need a little reminder of the
many things you have to be
thankful for, that the church or
temple is the most likely place
to recall these blessings and
offer thanks."
