Uncle David
Dear Boys and Girls:
Even the girls become fas-
cinated with one important
ceremony: The Bar Mitzvah. If,
it is not a brother or a cousin,
A may be just a neighbor who
is becoming Bar Mitzvah. Yet,
an of us are enthused with the
ceremony, with the knowledge
that another bay has entered
manhood and has become an
active person in Q u r Jewish
ranks.
Perhaps the best explanation
of a bors approaching t he
threshold of manhood is con-
tained in Proverbs. Here is the
important reference to Bar Mitz-
vah in Proverb 6:

"A PARENT, DEDICATED TO GOOD SCHOOLS"

CLARK L

BURGET, Jr.

Very often, we hear about a Bar
Mitivah who delivers .a speeciti-:
on the occasion of his being
called to the reading of the
Torah in his synagogue and to
recite the Maftir on his Bar
Mitzvah. Often there are some
fine prayers recited on this oc-
casion. I'd like to share with
you one of the most touching
and most impressive prayers on
the occasion of a Bar Mitzvah.
It is credited to Benjamin Arton'
in the year 1868 and reads as
follows: '
My God of My Fathers

On this solemn, and sacred
day, which . marketh my passage
from boyhood to •manhOod, I
humbly venture to raise my eyes
unto Thee, and to deciare with
sincerity and truth tnat hence-
forth I will observe all Thy com-
mandments, and undertake to
bear the responsibility of all my
actions towards Thee. In my
earliest infancy I was brought
within T h y sacred covenant
with Israel, and today again I
enter as an active responsible
member of the pale of Thine
elect congregation, in the midst
of which I will never cease to
glorify Thy holy name in the
face of all the nations.
Be Thou, 0 Heavenly Father,
hearken unto this my humble
prayer, and vouchsafe unto me
Thy gracious blessings, so that
my earthly life may be sus-
tained and made happy by
Vane ineffable mercies. Teach
me the way of Thy statutes, that
I may obey them, and faithfully
carry out Thy ordinances. Dis-
pose r,:y heart to love Thee and:
to fear Thy holy Name, and
grant me Thy support and the
strength necessary to avoid the .
worldly dangers which en-
compass the path lying before
me. Save me from temptation,
so that I may with fortitude ob- •
serve Thy Holy Law and those.
precepts on which human hap-
piness and eternal life depend.
Thus I will every day of my life
trustfully and gladly proclaim:

"HEAR, 0 ISRAEL, THE LORD
IS OUR GOD, THE LORD IS
ONE!"
My very best wishes to all of
you for a very pleasant Sabbath.

Only a GAS
Clothes Dryer Runs
for 20 an hour!

■.■

Before you buy,
check the amazingly low cost
of running a GAS Dryer

A Gas Clothes Dryer is just about the biggest bargain

you can own. It dries the-average load of wash in 45 to 50
minutes for less than two cents . . one-fifth the cost of
other automatic dryers. And think of the work it saves you
on that load of wash . the lifting and carrying of a heavy
basket of wet clothes, the piece-by-piece pinning up and
taking down. Not to 'mention the probable trouble from
rainy weather, broken clotheslines, and soot in the ear
that usually calls for re-washing.

Clothes come 'out of the .aits Dryer soft and Clean. And
about a third of your wash--sheets, towels, Mankate, lard.
goods, play clothes—are practically wrinkle-free, ready to
be put away without ironing.
