Marguerite Kozenn and the
JeWish Community Center's
Symphony Orchestra shared the
honors at the concert at the Da-
vison Center on Tuesday eve-
ning. The capacity audience
gave an ovation to the Detroit
soprano, • who made her first
public appearance 'here in four
years at this concert. It cheered
here husband; Julius Chajes, and
the orchestra he' has moulded
into a superb Detroit musical
instrument for their .magnifi-
cent performance.
Miss •Kozenn, who only three
weeks ago had undergone an
operation, was in splendid
voice. Accompanied by the or-
chestra, she sang Mendels-
sohn's "Hear Ye Israel" aria
from' "Elijah," "Voi lo sapete"
from "Cavaleria Riisticana,"
Chajes' "How Can I Reveal" in
Hebrew, the aria of Ruth
from "Naomi . and Ruth,"
"Summertime" from "Porgy
and Bess," as well as an en-
core, "Matinatta."
She was called back again and
again for bows by an apprecia-
tive an admiring audience. It
was a triumphal return after a
long absence from the Detroit
concert platform. "Miss Kozenn
during the four years of not .be-
ing heard in Detroit had made
scores of appearances in several
foreign countries, including Is-
rael, and in dozens of American
and Canadian cities.

Beethoven's Overture Leonore
No. 3 captivated the gathering.
The oboe and the horn were
heard as Beethoven had intend-
ed them. Similarly, the other
selections were acclaimed and
the concluding Hassidic Dance
by Leo Stein provided the prop-
er mood for a good concert.
