Plan Music Month Salute ' To Address Bnai Brith
Lodges in Many States

The eleventh annual nation-
wide observance of Jewish Music
Festival will open on Saturday,
it is announced by Rabbi Eman-
uel Green, chairman. of the Na-
tional Jewish Welfare Board-
sponsored National Jewish Music
Council, which coordinates the
month-long celebration.
Dedicated this year to the
American Jewish Tercentenary,
the festival will be marked by
concerts, exhibits, contests and
lectures in hundreds of com-
munities throughout the nation.
Several radio and television
stations are planning programs
honoring the occasion. To

shown in Detroit are "On a eun-
day Afternoon," at 4 p.m., Sun-
day, over Radio Station WJR;
"Voice of Firestone," at 8:30
p.m., Feb. 28, over WXYZ-TV;
and the "Perry Como Show,"

bi of Australia, will visit this
country to address Bnai Brith

a translator of
the famed Son-
cino version of
the Talmud,
Rabbi Porush
will arrive in
Philadelphia

rabbi, who is 48,

Jerusalem,
Dr. Porush trained in Ger-
many, and has achieved a repu-
tation in England and Australia.
He holds the degree of Doctor
of Philosophy in mathematics
from the University of Berlin,
and obtained his rabbinical de-
gree from the Hildesheimer
Rabbinical Seminary, also in
Berlin.
From 1934 to 1940 he was Rab-
bi of the Finchley Synagogue in
London. At the same time he
collaborated with other scholars
in producing the first complete
translation into English of the
Talmud. This edition, published
by the Soncino Jewish Publica-
tion Society, is considered the
most authoritative English ver,
Sion of the ancient classic.
Rabbi Porush has resided in
Australia since 1940. In addition
to being its governmentally-
recognized religious head, he
holds a number of leading po-
sitions in the educational, cul-
"tural and religious life in the
Commonwealth. He is Rabbi of
the Great Synagogue of Sydney,
chief judge of the Beth Din
(Jewish law court) of Sydney,
and president of the Association
of Jewish Ministers of Australia.
Rabbi Porush will leave this
country on April 1 to attend rab-
binical conferences that will be
held in Israel.
