To Host Midwest Regional Conclave

Hebrew Benevolent

Detroit Mizrachi Women will be hostesses' at the Midwest re-
gional conference of the organization on Monday and Tuesday,
at Hotel Detroiter. The steering committee, comprised of mem-
bers of Sisters of Zion Mizrachi and Fannie Gluck Chapter, in-
clude from the left, Mesdames AARON SOVERINSKY, EMIL
SPILMAN, MILTON WINSTON and ISAAC ROSENTHAL. Not
shown are Mrs. Joseph Kunin and Mrs. Philip Fealk. The two-
day parley will highlight a public session at 8 p.m., Monday. Dr.
Carl Herman Voss, chairman of the executive council of the
American Christian Palestine Committee, who recently returned
from a visit in the Middle East, - will be guest speaker. Sharing the
speakers platform will be Mrs. S. Deborah Ebin, recently elected
national president of Mizrachi Women. Cantor Hyman Adler will
be guest artist.

Step-Up Histadrut Campaign Activity
For Mid-Season Rally on Feb. 17

dict that the 1955 fund-raising
effort will finish well ahead of
last year.
. At the present -pace, over 85
percent of 'the groups support-
ing the campaign will register
gains. a Histadrut official re-
ported this week.
Workers a r e presently en-
gaged in second round of Hista-
drut activity, which opened of-
ficially at the second Lands-
manshaften breakfast rally last
Sunda y. Division personnel
made good an earlier promise to
• reach a peak of activity . from
Jan. 15 to Feb. 15, drive leaders
said.
With better than 35 organiza-
tions represented and a num-
ber of smaller societies report-
ing, a tally of funds brought in
indicated that half of last year's
total was achieved in a two-
week period.
Among those boosting the re-
turns were M. Skulsky, Work-
men Circle Branch 945; Hyman
Lipsitz, Hebrew Benevolent So-
ciety; Alex Gotleib, Suwalker
Society; Louis Markow, Pinsker
Progessive; Harry Katz, Lutz-
ker-Voliner; Mrs. Shirley Leet.
Detroit Ladies Social Club; and
Harry Grossman, Kadimah So-
cial Club. .
A similar breakfast rally is
scheduled for 10 a.m., Sunday,
at 13722 Linwood. Volunteers
from all divisions except the
Landsmanshaften, will submit
returns collected during the past
10 d Oys.
Results of the combined acti-
vities will be consolidated at the
Mid-Season Rally, to be held
Feb. 17, in Young_ Israel Center.

Council Delegates'
Assembly on Feb. 21

The next Community Council
delegate assembly will be held
Monday, Feb. 21, at the Esther
Berman Branch of the United
Hebrew Schools. Council presi-
dent, Sidney M. Shevitz, stated
that a detailed agenda will be
sent to the delegates prior to the
affair. Refreshments • will be
served after the business session
of the assembly.

Celebration on Feb. 12 at Berman OHS Bldg.

The Midrasha of the United
Hebrew Schools will hold its an-
nual Tu b'Shvat Melave Malkan,
Feb. 12, 8:30 p.m., in the audi-
torium of the Esther Berman
School.
The evening's entertainment
will be a combined program by
students of Midrasha and mem-
bers of Zionist youth organiza-
tions.
Habonim will present a choral
group, Hashomer Hatzair, a folk
dance group, the Israeli students
will feature their harmonica en-
semble, Bnei Akiva will partici-
pate in the Havdalah ceremony
and Hechalutz .Hatzair will pre-
pare decorations.
Lillian Wolock, arts and crafts
director of the United Hebrew
Schools, will be in charge of dee-

goslavian baritone, made his
American operatic debut with
the New York City Opera. In
1949, he made his recital debut
at Town Hall, New York.. These
AmeriCan appearances- followed
an impressive series of Euro-
Pean successes with the Zagreb
National Theater, Yugoslavia;
Zurich Opera Co., and the Vien-
na State Opera.
He appeared at Covent Garden
in 1939 under the direction of
Sir Thomas Beecham, in the role
of Jokanaan in Richard Strauss'
"Salome," and in 1947, portrayed
the title role in "Rigoletto."
Ernst and Lary Wallfisch, viola
and piano team, will be the as-
sisting artists in this concert.
