Detroit Orthodox Leaders
To Attend Cleveland Parley
The Union of Orthodox Jewish
Congregations of America will
hold its Midwestern regional
conference April 22 to 24, in
Cleveland, 0., announces Israel
I. Taslitt, TZOJCA vice-president,
who is planning the arrange-
ments.
According to Taslitt, the con-
ference will serve as a spring-
board for the intensification of
activity on behalf of Orthodoxy
in Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky.
Rabbi M. J. Wohlgelernter, of
Detroit's Cong. Mogen Abraham,
attended an organizational
meeting which helped set up the
conference.

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cutler, of Fullerton Ave., left last week for
Johannesburg, South Africa, where they will spend two weeks
with relatives. The Cutlers will contii;we to Israel where they
plan to spend a month, and will tour' Italy and France before
returning home.
Mrs. Max Newman, of Fullerton Ave., was entertained re-
cently at a farewell party by her children, Mr. and Mrs. Irving
Barill, of Sussex Ave., Oak Park, Mich., prior to her departure for
Los Angeles, Calif. where she will visit her sister, Mrs. Rose Moore.
A sweet sixteen party was given recently in honor of Beverly
Joyce Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brown, of Monica
Ave. Held at Menjo's, 25 people attended as Beverly's guests.
A delegation of Detroiters, who have taken a prominent part
in philanthropic activities, will join- with more than 1000 com-
munity leaders from all sections of the United States at, a testi-
monial dinner in honor of Edward M. M. Warburg, newly-elected
president of the United Jewish Appeal, at the Waldorf-Astoria
Hotel, New York, Saturday. The Detroit group includes MrS
H. C. Broder. Mrs. Abraham - Cooper, Sol. B. Edelman, Mr. and Mrs.
John E. Lurie, Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Srere and Mr. and Mrs. David
Wilkus.
A sweet sixteen luncheon was given recently by Mr..and Mrs.
Sam Levey in honor of Miss Beverly Gray, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. I. Gray.
Mrs. Henry Gandal, of Cleveland, 0., is the guest of her chil-
dren, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Berch, of LaSalle Blvd.
Mr. and Mrs. Byron Katz, of 2751 Rochester, Detroit, are
presently honeymooning at the Sahara, in Miami Beach, Fla. Mrs.
Katz is the' former Anita Rothstein, of Chicago, Ill.
Mr. and Mrs. John Sills, of Santa Barbara Dr., and Mr. and
Mrs. Maxwell Silverstein, of Merton Rd., recently returned from a
trip to Miami Beach, Fla. where they visited the David Silv.u-
steMs, former Detroiters, now of Miami Beach.
A number of Michigan residents were in Chicago, Ill., laSt
weekend to attend the Bar Mitzvah of Sol H. Pelavin, son of Mrs.
Norman Pelavin and the late Mr. Norman Pelavin, at Temple
Anshe Amet. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. B. Morris Pela-
vin, of Flint, the Jay Rosenthals, Sid Freedmans, Alex Kohners,
Manny Feinbergs, Emanuel Siedlers, Nathan LacS' and Mrs. Abra-
ham Jaffin. - Mrs. Tessie Bernstein attended from New York, and
Mrs. Esther Pelavin, from Fresno, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Itskovitz, of Indiana Ave., will honor the
sixteenth birthday of their daughter, Anita, at a dinner-dance for
65 guests in the Elmwood Casino in Windsor.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Simons recently celebrated their 25th
wedding anniversary at a dinner party given by their daughters,
Mrs. Morton Trotsky, of Cleveland, 0., and Judy, and Mrs. Simons'
immediate family. Other guests included,Mr. and Mrs. Joseph

nounces that a series of leader-
ship training workshops has
been inaugurated for officers
and members of the 16 local
chapters of the organization.
The sessions will include
demonstrations and group dis-
cussions of club techniques and
work for the organization in
America and throughout the
world. The fourth session will
be devoted to the work of Moat-
zot Hapoalot, sister organiza-
tion of Pioneer Women in Israel.
A program on "So You Want
to Chair a Meeting" will be fea-
tured next Thursday. All ses-
sions are held at Council offices.
The remaining meetings are
scheduled for Feb: 3, "Think-
ing on Your Feet;" Feb. 10,
"Democracy and World Peace;"
and Feb. 1'7, "Are You Your
Brother's Keeper?" Respective

The first social get-together
of the new semester of the Syn-
agogue Adult Institute will take
place Tuesday evening, at Adas
Shalom Synagogue where all
classes are held.
The novel "Jewish Do It Your-
self" workshop is creating inter-
est. At the first session, students
created beautiful copper plac-
ques, molded with designs sug-
gesting Jewish themes. This
class is under the direction of
Mrs. Alv.a Dworkin, a graduate
of Wayne University school of
arts.
The dance sessions, conduct-
ed by Harriet Berg, assistant di-
rector of Wayne University
Dance Workshop, will begin Jan.
'25. Music sessions are under the
direction of Lama Shetzer.
New students may still regis-
ter for the "Jewish Do It Your-
self" and for the "Bookshelf of
Modern Jewish Biographies,"
conducted by Rabbi Milton Arm.
Rabbi Jacob Chinitz, haS join-
ed the Institute faculty and is
conducting the course, "Bible
Texts for Modern Man."
