Lodges Swing Into Action Several events are planned this week by lodges comprising the Greater Detroit Bnai Brith Men's Council. On Sunday, Dr. Lawrence I. Yaffa and Louis E. Barden will speak at 12 noon, over Weinberg's Jewish Hour on Bnai Brith's Institutes on Juda- ism. Five Detroit athletes will be honored at the annual Sports Night held by Ivan S. Bloch at 8:30 p.m., Monday, at Car- penter's Hall, Puritan and Steel. Lyall Smith, Free Press sports editor will be master of cere- monie s, and will introduce Wayne Belardi, Tiger first base- man; Sherman Gandee, of the Detroit Lions; Norbert Sche- mansky, world heavyweight lift- ing champion; a n d Clarence Johnson, AAU chairman. Art Laing, sports director of CKLW radio station, will tape record portions of the program to be broadcast on his 11 p.m. show that evening. The first Detroit showing of 1954 World Series baseball films also will be featured. Five outstanding athletes in the area as selected by various local coaches and officials will be awarded by Hank Wald, Bloch president. Members and their wives are invited to attend the program, according to Charles Blauer, chairman. Pisgah Lodge will hold its an- nual Sports Night at 8:30 p.m., Monday, also, at Parkside Hall, 3119 Fenkell. Members of the Detroit Lions, Tigers and Red Wings will be featured. The event, co-sponsored by t h e Lodge and its bowling league, will offer other sports personalities, films and a social hour. Members, their families and friends are all welcome. A square dance is being planned by members of Louis D. Brandeis Lodge for Jan. 23, at Beth Aaron Synagogue.
