Rabbi Stollman Pleads Against
Divisiveness at Mizrachi Event

Vt .!
rns

In the only purely Yiddish
address heard at the annual
Mizrachi dinner at the Latin
Quarter, Tuesday night, Rabbi
Isaac Stollman, a national Miz-
rachi vice-president, decried di-
visiveness in Jewish ranks.
Speaking briefly, Rabbi Stollman
declared that this is not the
time for demonstrations, pro-
tests and shouting, but must be
made a time to build Israel.
This, he said, is Mizrachi's
clarion call.
His remarks were interpreted
as a plea against the splitting of
Jewish ranks over the activities
of the Neturei Karta in Israel.
The guest speaker, Rabbi Max
Kirshblum, national Mizrachi
president, referring to the ex-
tremist group of Canaanites in
Israel, declared that they have
no relation to the Jewish past

and therefore can not have a
share in the Jewish future, but
later said that the N:eturei Karta
have a right to their own opin-
ions. His reference to the Ca-
naanites was while he was de-
veloping a theme that "Hebrai-
zation alone is not a solution" to
Jewish needs—the Canaanites,
too, he explained, being among
those who have mastered He-
brew.
Rabbi Kirshblum pleaded for
the spiritual integration of Jews
in order to avoid "spiritual perils
of the future." He maintained
that a third of American Jewry
is in danger of "disintegration
and dissolution due to .am ha-
aratzus," and he made the added
claim that only 300,000 of the
1,200,000 Jewish children of
school age in this country are
receiving any sort of Jewish
education, "including Sunday
school and shande school."
Half of Rabbi Kirshblum's ad-
dress was a repetition of his
speech given here at the Yid-
dish Tercentenary celebration a
month ago—this time in trans-,
lation but with many portions
still in Yiddish—for the benefit,
he said, of those who did not
understand him when he first
delivered his Tercentenary
speech.
Phillip Stollman, president of
Detroit Mizrachi, greeted the
gathering. Irving W. Schlussel
presided. A fine musical pro-
gram, including liturgical, Is-
raeli, Yiddish and Hebrew songs,
was given by Cantors Hyman
Adler and Judah Goldring, with
Mrs. Florence Goldring at the
piano.

Poland, Rabbi Lewin has distin-

He was one of the signers of the
Israel Declaration of Indepen-
dence in 1948. For four years he
was a member of the Israel Cab-
inet.
