Brings Astonishing Reply

The other clay- ,we were talk -
Ing to a casual acquaintance
when we found ourselves, not
uncommonly, on the subject of
residence. He told us that he
lived in Dearborn, while we, in
turn, casually said that we lived
in Oak Park.
His next remark amazed us.
"Oh, I didn't know you were
Jewish."
His statement was made with-
out malice, just matter-of-
factly, but it aroused our curios -
Ay. We asked him how it was
he asked the question. He an-
swered that he thought of Oak
Park as being a Jewish com-
munity.

Through further conversa-
tion, we learned that because
he had seen one synagogue
and heard that others were to
be built, Oak Park was now
considered as being a 'Jewish
section.
That brought us to call the

Oak Park City Hall where Har-
old Schone, the City Manager,
informed us that there were no
statistics available on religious
or nationality breakdowns . of
the population.
We asked him, however, if he
could give us an estimate of the
Jewish population. Based on
religious preference gathered
from school children on a basis

Mexican Senate has ratified a

ment, which was negotiated some
time ago, is expected to lead to
intensified trade between the
