still alive today because a
heart that lived to give . . .
his own . . received help
when it was needed . . He
is stil! in serious condition at
Sinai Hospital . but, ac-
cording to hospital informa-
tion, getting a little better
each day . . . Last week, Joe's
big heart that pounded con-
stant beats in a life filled with
doing favors for others almost
stopped beating when unfor-
seen complications set in fol-
lowing a gall bladder opera-
tion . . which necessitated
his return a couple of more
times to the operating table
• . Don McCleod, WJBK disc
jockey, Mark Beltaire, Free
Press columnist, plus other
staff writers and radio voices
of the people, joined repeated
press and air pleas for 0 Posi-
tive_ blood needed to help Joe
„ , Those who heard or read
quickly responded . . . He was
aiven over 30 transfusions to
combat the constant hemorr-
haging that was trying so
desperately to claim his life
•
. But there still beats a
heart in Joe Cohen .
a big
heart that too many people
insisted could not and would
