is co-sponsoring the banquet.
The program at the recep
tion will feature Miss Vivian
Goldstein of Chicago, who has
been widely acclaimed for her
Yiddish readings and inter-
pretations. Miss Shoshana
Brooks of Detroit will present
Hebrew and Yiddish folk
songs. Mrs. Daniel Levy of
Flint will accompany her on
the piano.
Program chairmen are Max
Donetz and Sam Buckler.
Many guests are expected
from Detroit, Chicago, and
other cities.
The Cultural Club and the
friends of Mr. Sendler have
undertaken a project of plant-
ing a grove of trees in Israel
in his honor, on land of the
Jewish National Fund. •
Mr. Sendler is one of the most
popular and most beloved Jewish
leaders in Flint. An ardent Yid-
dishist, he has become famous
for his colloquialisms and the
the juiciness of his Yiddish
expressions. While he is a
master of English, he neverthe-
less constantly uses Yiddish, out
of love for the language, its.lit-
erature, its humor and its folk
music.
I Born in Biersz, Lithuania, he
was the only son in a family
which for six generations had
only one son in each generation.
He studied in the famous Slo-
bodka Yeshiva and left in 1906
to come to this country. He
settled in Detroit. where he first
worked in an automobile plant,
and while here helped found
branches of Poale Zion. He also
aided in organizing Labor Zion-
ist groups in Rochester, Buffalo,
Cleveland and Toledo. He con-
tinued his devoted work for the
Zionist cause in the ranks of the
Farband.
In World War I, Mr. Sendler
enlisted in the Jewish Legion,
but because his work in a
munitions plant was rated "es-
sential" he was not given per-
. mission to leave the country.
He helped organize a nursing
service for the Jewish Legion
that fought for the liberation
of Palestine from the Turks.
He brought his family to Flint
in 1926 and acquired a small
linen supply business.
Throughout their residence in
Flint, the Sendlers have been
active in the Hebrew School, the
Farband, all Zionist efforts and
especially the Jewish National
Fund. Mr. Sendler is a member
of the Zionist Organization, Bnai
Brith and Congregation Beth
Israel. He is a member of the
board of the Jewish Community
Council and served as chairman
of the JNF Council.
The Sedlers have three grand-
children.
Their three children are Uni-
versity of Michigan graduates.
Simson also earned his Master's
degree and is teaching in East
Detroit. Their son-in-law, Sid-
ney Davidson, received his Ph.D.
degree from the University of
Michigan and is associate pro-
fessor of economics at John
Hopkins University, Baltimore.
Harry Ratner is in the furniture
business in Flint.

Neturei

Karta Leader Released from Jail,
As Jerusalem Government Seeks 'Armistice'

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Rabbi
Armram Blau, leader of the ul-
tra-Orthodox Neturei Karta, has
been released from jail after 21
days.
Rabbi Blau, together with
Jerusalem's Deputy M ay o r,
Moshe Porush, however, must
still stand trial before a magis'-''
trate's court, on charges of dis-
turbing the peace on the Sab-
bath, a charge growing out of
earlier attempts Vto block the
streets of this city to vehicular
traffic on the Sabbath.
Meanwhile, members of a spe-
cial municipal 'committee for an
"armistice" met with Rabbi Blau
in connection with still another
source of friction. This one re-
lates to a club and playground
on the outskirts of Jerusalem's
Mea Shearim' section, operated
by the Israel Working Women's
Association.
Members of Rabbi Blau's sect
have demonstrated against this
club on the grounds that it
would exert a corrupting influ-
ence on their children.
Rabbi Blau, in his talks with

the special committee, indicated
that the Neturei Karta would
cease its attacks if a high all
were erected around the club to
hide what he termed its "goings
on." But the working women's
group has made it known that
it opposes any changes in the
structure or operation of the
club.

How TO SLEEP SOUNDLY

• •

It's as simple as 1-2-3 to drift into
the most refreshing winter night's
sleep you've ever had!

Just set your automatic bed
covering's temperature con.
to the warmth you want.

trot

2. Zip into bed.

3. Dream away relaxed, un-
hampered by umpteen heavy
blankets over you.

An automatic bed covering gives
you light-as-a-feather, warm-as-
toast comfort regardless of room
temperature changes. And for only
tiny fraction more than 2c worth
of electricity a night.
