"FANNY"

F 0 U R - YEAR - OLD Steven
Byron Harris had been corrected
for his table manners, and fin-
ally for his language at • the
table . . But he continued to
talk cheerfully, though un-
answered, by his father, jeweler
Mel Harris, who was using the
method of ignoring the little
offender .. Finally, little Steven
turned to Mrs. Harris and re-
marked, "Your husband doesn't
talk much, does he, Mother?"

INFANT SERVICE GROUP
big show this year with their
annual dinner-dance . . . Jan.
30 . . . at Masonic Temple, is
titled "Fanfare" . . Eleanor
Riseman will again direct the
show . . . her 18th consecutive
year . . . in what promises to be
the best of them all, although
every year it just doesn't seem
possible anything could be! . . .
Bill Richards has the ISG gals
in the show hopping with his
choreography direction . . . and
they can sure hop! . . Guest
stars will be an added attrac-
tion with the members in show
. . . and some of the husbands
again doing their stuff . . .
Detroiter and member Viola
Pearlman (professional name is
Viola Lane) has appeared on
Milton Berle's TV program, the
Martinique in New York, and
the Thunderbird in Las Vegas
among her many stops as a
noted impressionist . . . but this
time will stay in Detroit to ap-
pear in "Fanfare" . . New
comic and m.c. Sheky Green
from the Chez Paree in Chicago,
is finishing up his laugh-getting
in Las Vegas to also appear .. .
along with- the Five Woodsons,
singing and instrumental gals
making a big name for them-
selves around the country . • .
Tickets to the Infant Service
Group affair are again going
so fast that, as usual, a sellout
crowd will be bringing down
rafters with their applause for
a really terrific evening.

SYMPHONY MAESTRO Zinovi
Bistritzky tells of the time he
was guest conductor on a con-
cert program in New York . .
swinging his baton to Beetho-
ven's "Leanore" overture, the
two climaxes of which are each
followed by a trumpet passage
off-stage . . The first climax
came but not a sound emanated
from the trumpet . . Zinovi,
considerably annoyed, went on
to the second . . . Again there
was silence . . . This time, the
overture being finished, he
rushed into the wings . . . There
he found the trumpet player
still arguing with the house
fireman . . . "I tell you, you
can't play that thing back here,"
the latter was saying. "There's
a concert going on!"

IN MANY PARTS of Mexico,
writes visitor Manny Elkin, hot
springs and cold springs are
found side by side . . . He reports
that one can see native women
boiling clothes in a hot spring,
rubbing them on a flat rock and
rinsing them in a • clear cold
spring . . . Manny watched this
process for a while, and then
said to his .guide, "I suppose the
natives think old Mother Nature
is pretty generous, eh?" . . .
"No, senor," replied the guide.
"There is much grumbling be-_
cause she supplies no soap." -

M. R. TWOMEY, president of LaSalle Wines & Champagne,
Inc., is shown here at the right receiving the Star of Excellence
Award from REMI LOWAGIAC, Belgian Consul in Detroit. The
prize was presented to LaSalle Wines by the Institute International
D'Alimentation in Paris, France, after LaSalle's Windsor Club
White Carbonated Wine won in competition with sparkling wine,
carbonated red and white wines, champagne, pink champagne,
sparkling burgandy and sparkling muscat. This is LaSalle's third
award, previous ones having been a national U.S. prize for sani-
tation and cleanliness, and a top award at the International
Wine Show in California for red and sweet table wine. No other
winery has three such awards, Twomey told the Consul.

Egypt Promises
To Release Bat.
Galim on Jan. 1

UNITED NATIONS, N.Y. (JTA)
— The Egyptian delegation at
the United Nations informed the
UN Security Council that the
crew of the Israel vessel "Bat
Galim" seized by Egypt would be
set free on Jan. 1, and that the
ship will also be released. No
date for the release of the ship
was mentioned.
The Egyptian move followed
an announcement earlier in the
day that the UN Security Coun-
cil would meet on Jan. 4, 1955.
to consider Israel's grievances
against Egypt in connection with
the anti-Israel blockade of the
Suez Canal with special refer-
ence to the seizure of "Bat Gal-
im." Setting the date for the
session on Jan. 4 removed Leb-
anon's Dr, Charles Malik from
further direct participation in
the case since Lebanon's seat on
the Security Council expires Dec
31.
Arab circles here expect that
the meeting of the Security
Council, announced for Jan. 4,
will now be cancelled since Egypt
pledged to release the vessel
However, the Israel delegation
at the UN issued a statement
declaring:
"Israel will be ready to discuss
cancellation of the Security
Council meeting only if and af-
ter the release of the Bat Galim,
its crew and cargo together, and
when the Bat Galim with its
crew and cargo has started
northward through the Suez
Canal to its original destination,
which is Haifa."
Dr. Malik, who has been the
Arab League's 'mouthpiece in the
Security Council has only a week
left to help his colleagues in the
Arab League in their anti-Israel
strategy. Lebanon's place on the
Council will be taken on Jan. 1
by Iran. - Two other present
members, Denmark and Colom-
bia, are leaving the Council.
Their places are being taken by
Belgium and Peru. The president
of the Council will be Leslie
Knox Munro.of New Zealand.
