Plan Week of Events;
To Observe Hanukah

NORTHWEST ISRAEL SYNAGOGUE: Sabbath services at 4:45
p.m., today. At 9 a.m., Saturday services, Rabbi Leo Y. Gold-
man will speak on "Hanukah—The Yom Toy of Light."
BETH AARON SYNAGOGUE: Sabbath services at 4:45 pan., today.
At 8:45 a.m., Saturday services, Rabbi Benjamin H. Gorrelick
will speak on "The Maccabees;— Past, Present and Future."
The Bar Mitzvahs of Larry Weiner and Peter Fishman will be
observed.
CONG. AHAVAS ACHIM: Sabbath services at 4:45 and 9 p.m., to-
day. At 8:45 a.m. services Saturday, Rabbi Jacob M. Chinas
will preach on "The Six, Seven and Eight Branched Candel-
abra." The Bar Mitzvah of Aaron Goren will be observed.
CONG. MISHKAN ISRAEL: At Saturday services, Rabbi Isaac
Stoliman will speak on "Faith and Courage—A Hanukah Mes-
sage."
TEMPLE ISRAEL: At 8:30 p.m. services today, Dr. Leon Fram will
preach on "Christmas," the fourth in his series of notable
December anniversaries.
CONG. BNAI DAVID: Sabbath services at 4:45 p.m., today; at 8:25
a.m., Saturday. The Bar Mitzvah of Stephen Dvorin will be
observed.
ADAS SHALOM SYNAGOGUE: Sabbath services at 4:45 p.m., to-
day; at 8:30 a.m., Saturday. The Bar Mitzvah of Robert
Epstein will be observed.
CONG. BNAI MOSHE: Sabbath services at 4:40 and 8:15 p.m., to-

today. At the installation service of Rabbi Joel Litke, spiritual

At 11:15 a.m., Saturday serv-
ices, Rabbi Klein will preach on
"The Challange of the Tercen-
tenary."

Changes Its Name

Local Rabbis Launch
Drive for Israel Mikvot

Appeals will be made in sev-
eral local synagogues this sab-
bath for support of a program
to build mikvot — ritulariums —
in many new settlements in Is-
rael.
The campaign is being started
as a direct result of a meeting
last week, which heard from
Rabbis Joshua F. Sachs and
Rabbi Jechiel Elbom, of Israel.
Called under the auspices of the
Vaad Harabonim and the Mer-
kaz, the meeting was presided
over by Rabbi Isaac Stoilman.
All local congregations a r e
being urged to back the cam-
paign, which seeks to raise funds
to meet emergency needs in Is-
rael settlements for provision of
these traditional mikvot.
A special committee of rabbis
and laymen formed to back the
drive includes Rabbis &oilman,
Leizer Levin, Max J. Wohlgelern-
ter, Leib Bakst, S. Gr uski n,
Chaskel Grubner, Moses Roth-
enberg, Joseph E 1 i a s, Samuel
Prero a n d Sholom Goldstein,
and Messrs. Judah Lachar, M.
Lipshitz, Isador Cohen, Abra-
ham Nusbaum and Daniel Tem-
chin.

The Conservative group In the

Several activities are planned

Nine teen-age members of the
congregation's United Synagogue

nual USY conference in Boston,
Tuesday to Thursday. Over 1,000
delegates will discuss the pro-
blem of attracting teen-age
youth to the synagogue.
Adas Shalom delegates will in-
elude Ira Harris, Rosalie Neu-
virth, Sheila Bark, with Lois
Greenberg, Deborah Rosen and
Beverly Stein, as alternates, and
Carol Josph, Sabina Schwartz
and Janet Weingarden, as ob-
servers. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard
Jaffe will accompany the group
as advisers.
The Married Couples Club will
play host to youngsters of the
congregation at its first annual
Hanukah party at 2 p.m., Sun-
day, in the synagogue board
room. Games and refreshments
are planned. Arrangements are
being made by the Irving Barits,
Eddie Schwartz' and Earl Wak-
sers.

Birthday Honored Here

Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Schwartz-
berg, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Eisen-
man, Mrs. Irene Pensler, Mr.
and Mrs. Ben Aronson and Mr.
and Mrs. Alvin B. Lynn, paid
tribute to their father, Rabbi
Joseph Eisenman, well-known
former Detroit Rabbi, on the
occasion of his
80th birthday,
