Katz on "Jewish Pioneers in
Michigan," The Jewish News er-
roneously stated that Chapman
Abraham, the first Jew on record
in Detroit, died in 1803. Mr.
Katz states that Abraham actu-
ally died in 1783.

Union executive, arrived in New
York from Geneva for discus-
sions with the Joint Distribution
Committee on the financial re-
quirements of the ORT voca-
tional program during 1955.

Dr. MORTON J. SOBEL, Mich-
igan Regional Director of the
Anti-Defamation League of Bnai
Brith, was named to fill one of
the vacancies on the board of
advisors of the Michigan Child
Study Association. The group,
comprised of 200 chapters, func-
tions on a state-wide basis. Dr.
Sobel, at the recent state con-
vention in Ann Arbor, presented
a program for the entire organ-
ization which will emphasize hu-
man relations in its studies and
activities. ADL and other ma-
terial will be utilized by the
various groups.

Jack Silver, exchanged martial
vows with Lloyd I. Ruby, son
of Mrs. Blanche Ruby, in a
ceremony Dec. 12, at Beth Aaron
Synagogue.
Estelle Allen was maid of
honor, and bridesmaids were
Lenore Solomon, Alice Lang and
Phyllis Miller. Ralph Wise was
best man, and ushers included
Joe Shulman, Martin Miller and
Bobby Shulman. Barbara Morse
was junior bridesmaid, while
Allan Silver, the bride's brother,
was junior usher. Herbert Silver,
another brother of the bride,
and Allen Miller, a cousin, were
ring bearers, and Sherlyn Cohen,
cousin of the bride, was flower
girl.
Following a dinner and recep-
tion in the • synagogue social
hall, the couple left for a two-
week honeymoon in Florida.

WARREN-GOLDFARB. In a
ceremony'. Dec. 12, at Temple
Beth El, -in Flint, Janet Helene
Goldfarb, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. David Goldfarb, of 1105
Blanchard, Flint, became the
bride of Milton George Warren,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis War-
ren, also of Flin t. The young
people spoke their vows before
Rabbis Herbert Yarrish and
Morton. Applebaum.
The bride chose a gown of
antique ivory taffeta, styled
with a snug bodice, long sleeves
coming to a point over her
hands and with a neckline of
taffeta in petal from which was I
inserted with Venetian lace
petals and clusters of small
pearls.
The bodice dropped to a
point in front of the bouffant
skirt which extended into a
short train. Her three-tiered
illusion veil was caught to her
head by a snug-fitting band of
the taffeta and matching petals
of illusion and pearls. She car-
ried a bouquet of white orchids
surrounded by phaelanopsis.
Attending the bride was Mrs.
Charles Dodge, the bridegroom's
sister, as matron of honor, Mrs.
Hershel Stuart of Oak Park,
and Sally Barnett of Pontiac,
her cousins, and Mrs. Jerry Hel-
fenbein, of Ann Arbor, as brides-
maids.
The bridegroom asked Robert
Goldstein to serve as his best
man, while ushers included
Charles Dodge, his brother-in
law, Carl Goldfarb, the bride's
brother, Richard Cooper, the
bride's brother-in-law, Robert
Barnett and Jack Magidsohn,
her cousins, M. J. Salle, his
uncle, Donald Warren, his cous-
in, and Avery Fishier.
The bridal couple received
their guests following the cere-
mony at the Durant Hotel,
following which they left on a
motor trip to Florida and Cuba.
After a month's honeymoon,
they will return to make their
home in Flint.

The Detroit Social Club of Mi-
ami and Miami Beach, Fla., wel-
comed members and their friends
at its fifth annual Hanukah
dinner and dance Thursday, at
the Shelbourne Hotel.
Detroiters planning to spend
the winter season in Florida are
invited to call Ruth L. Fisher,

Yeshivah Executive
Slates Hanukah Brunch

A Hanukah brunch for syna-
gogue officers and other com-
munity leaders will be tendered
at Lachar's, at 11 a.m., Sunday,
by Daniel A. Laven, chairman
of the executive committee of
the Schools.
The affair will celebrate the
2119th Hanukah according to
the. Jewish calendar and give the
leaders attending a public re--
port on the activities of the
school.
"Beth Yehudah Schools, while
struggling for financial exis-
tance, has achieved tremendous
educational success, and is re-
garded as one of the finest and
outstanding schools of its type
in the country," Laven said. The
Beth Jacob School for girls is an
integral part of the Yeshivah.
A three-story building is now
in the process of construction at
Dexter and Sturtevant to re-
lieve overcrowding at present
quarters and to make possible
the transfer of students from
Conde n e d buildings. This
structure will be ready for oc-
cupancy in early spring, 1955.
