Turkey-Arab Accord
Will Not Hurt Israel
ISTANBUL, (JTA)—Any
ra-
approachment between Turkey
and the Arab states will not be
made at the expense of Israel,
but will serve to better guaran-
tee Israel's security, according
to Faut KrOprulu, Turkish For-
eign Minister.
In a statement to newsmen,
KoprUlu said that Turkey will
continue its present friendly
policy toward Israel, regardless
of any relations it may have
with Arab nations.
At the •same time, he stressed
that while Turkey was seeking
to strengthen its • relations with
the Arab world it was not con-
templating signing • bilateral
agreements with Egypt or Iraq.
The Foreign Minister said that
any arrangement arrived at be-
tween Turkey and the Arabs
would be a defensive arrange-
ment based on United Nations
principles banning aggression or
threats of aggression and rec-
ommending the solution of all
problems . through peaceful
means. "This," he continued,.
"will also reassure Israel." ..

Israel Sabbath Traffic
JERUSALEM, (JTA) — The Is-
rael Cabinet decided not to in-
terfere with private traffic on
the Sabbath, although it agreed
not to license trucks to pick up
of Detroit and Michigan for
passengers on the Sabbath when
public bus service is suspended.
The decision, a reaffirmation

of past policy, came at the con-
clusion of a stormy meeting at
which Minister for Religion
Moshe Shapiro and Minister of
Post Joseph Burg — representa-
tives of the religious parties —
raised the question of the re-
cent street fights between Or-
lilt
thodox and Laborite elements
over Sabbath observance.
The religious ministers de-
manded that the police curb

Our modern Maccabees still stand guard for freedom
— in Israel, in this country, throughout the world. To
uphold the hands of all fighters for freedom and to insure
the liberties of all is the great challenge of every Hanu-
kah. May the Hanukah spirit conquer bigotry and hate.
We extend Hanukah greetings to the entire community.
