Monday evening, at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Nusbaum:
Dr. Churgin, who has been
with Yeshiva University for 28
years, is presently dean of the
Teacher's Insti- tz-
tute at the uni-
versity and is
professor ofii:
Jewish history;
and literature.
He is prepar-
ing to leave for
Israel to assume
the duties of
dean of Bar-
Ilan University
in Ramat Gan.
The official
opening of the Dr. Churgin
university in August, 1955, will
be attended by a delegation of
Detroiters.
Plans have been made for 25
buildings on the university cam-
pus, eight of which have already
been erected.

Recipe in Newest Cook

Did you ever hear of a "Ka-
towes Cake?" There is a treat
in store for those seeing unusual
recipes in "The Jewish Festival
Cookbook" by Fannie Engle and
Gertrude Blair, published by
David McKay Co., 55 Fifth, NY3.
The Katowes Cake is explained
as an answer to riddles and
jingles. It is offered for Hanu-
kah. Its ingredients are:

16 tablespoons flour (1 cup)
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 eggs
16 tablespoons sugar (1 cup)
2 teaspoons lemon juice
6 tablespoons hot milk (or orange
juice for a pareve cake)
Sift the flour and baking powder to-
gether three times. Beat the eggs 10
minutes very light. Continue beating as
s added, 2 to 3 tablespoons at a
ti m e, i until very light and thick. Fold
in dry ingredients, 1,.;, at a time. Add
hot milk at once and fold in. Bake in
ungreased 9"x3" pan or in two ungreased
9"xl.':.2"' pans. If a tube pan, in a slow
oven (325 degrees F.) for 25 minutes.
Invert pan and let cool before removing
the cake from pan. (If removed hot
from pan, cake will shrink appreciably.)
Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar, or
frost as desired. Serves 8.
