Renowned authors, distinguished guests, non-Jews as
well as Jews, visiting the 3rd annual Book Fair at the Jewish
Center have expressed amazement at the warm response
that was in evidence during the entire three days of the
book displays, special programs and exhibitions.
It is estimated that close to 3,000 people were at the
Book Fair Sunday, that there were nearly 1,500 people on
Saturday night and nearly that many on Monday.
More than $2,000 worth of books were sold Sunday alone
and that much more the other two days.
More than $700 worth of ceremonial objects and toys
were sold at the gift shop that was ably managed by Mrs.
Hy Burnstein.
The entire event, which is considered the outstanding of
its kind ever prepared anywhere in this country, was
arranged by a committee headed by Mrs. Harry L. Jackson.
The efficient and wise management and supervision is due
to the guidance of the Jewish Center staff member, Mrs.
George Rubin.
Some of the events Were held in the adjoining Jewish
War Veterans Memorial Building.
A pictorial record of the events—the men's and women's
on the three days, the children's on Sunday and the young
adults' on Monday night—was made by Benyas-Kaufman
Photogra- phers.
Only one objection has been heard; why doesn't the
Center extend the Book Fair for an entire week?
