League to Co-Sponsor
Ladies Day Event
At Jewish Book Fair

The League of Jewish Wom-
en's Organizations will hold a
board meeting at 12:30 p.m.,
Thursday, at the home of Mrs,
Norman Kanter, on Northlawn
Ave. A luncheonette will precede
the meeting.
All presidents of constituent
organizations and standing com-
mittee chairmen are urged to
attend, as plans will be made
for the Tercentenary pageant
to be sponsored by the League
on Feb. 14.
Again this year, League mem-
bers will cooperate with the
Jewish Comniunity Center in
planning the Ladies Day pro-
gram at the third annual Jew-
ish Book Fair on Monday, at
the Davison Center.
Plans for Ladies Day are be-
ing directed by the League's co-
operative council, which has
scheduled a, complimentary
luncheon at 12 noon for all
guests attending the program.
The cooperative council, old-
est functioning group of the
League, is composed of 14 or-
ganizations: Detroit Women of
Alpha Omega, Equality Club,
Hebrew Ladies Aid Society,
Home Relief Society, Infants
Service Group, Aesculapian
Pharmaceutical Auxiliary, Neu-
garten Medical Aid, Northwest
Child Rescue Women, Primrose
Benevolet Club, Sheruth League,
United Order of True Sisters,
Young Women's Bicur Cholem,
Youth Education League and
Zedakah Club.
Classified as service groups,
these organizations meet the
needs of indigent families, en-
compassing activities from in-
fancy to the extreme aged.
Through the cooperative coun-
cil, these groups discuss prob-;
'terns and cases .and avoid dupli-
cation of effort in their work,

League president.

All Circle Branches
Active This Weekend

Five branches of Workmen's
Circle swing into action today
and another on Sunday to high-
light activities of the organiza-
tion. All of today's meetings be-
gin at 9 p.m.
Meeting at the WC Center,
11529 Linwood, Branch 460E will
plan its annual New Year's Eve
affair and discuss the referen-
dum recommended by the na-
tional convention of the Circle
in May.
Branch 470E will meet this
evening, at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Leon Brooks, 3252 W.
Grand.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Downs,
16239 Muirland, will host Branch
463E members at an election
meeting. Nominations for the
annual award winners will take
place. Past winners have in-
cluded the late Sen. Blair Moody
and Judge George Edwards.
Branch 1060 will meet at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Shifrin, 20050 Vaughn, when
Circuit Judge George Edwards
speaks on "Child-Parent Rela-
tionships."
Shmuel Niger, writer and crit-
ic, will lecture on "300 Years of
the Life of the Jews in the
United States and Their Contri-
butions to American Culture" at
the Circle Center tonight. The

Branch 111 will celebrate its
38th anniversary with a cabaret
night at 6 p.m., Sunday, at the

The Circle youth dramatic

Mrs. Dorothy Roer, junior pro-
gram director of the Davison
Center, will present a play, "Lit-
tle Book," at the Jewish BOOk

Receives Art Citation

The Medal Award, highest
honor the Chicago Art Directors
Club bestows on creative people,
was granted W. B. Doner
Company (Detroit, Chicago and
Milwaukee) and accepted by its
art director, Benjamin Gold-
stein, for the creation of a fully
animated commercial titled
"Drybones."
Goldstein received, in addition,
the Merit Award for another
fully animated commercial, titled
"The Faygo Kid."
Selection of these two com-
mercials by the Chicago Art Di-
rectors Club came after survey-
ing over 4,000 entries, submitted,

the estate of Harry Steingart,
who died recently leaving no
heirs, revealed this week that
the deceased bequeathed $10,000
to various charities. His will
