KUPAT HOLIM—The major health service in Israel is Kupat Holim, which
cares for 1,000,000 men, women and children, including members and

non-members of Histadrut.

AMAL SCHOOLS—Thousands of new immigrants in Israel arrive without
any skills. They are destined to become unemployed and unproductive
unless they acquire a useful. trade. A major factor in the development of
skilled workers is the Histadrut vocational training program.

SETTLEMENTS—Immigrants and old citizens alike are responding to the
Histadrut-inspired "back-to-the-land" movement known in Hebrew as
"Min Ha'ir L'Kfar". Many families desire to take root in the soil and need
the help of experienced sympathetic friends such as Histadrut provides.

CULTURE—Whether a talented individual seeks higher education or a mass
of new immigrants require elementary education that will bring them
into the social life of the country, Histadrut's department of education
and culture endeavors to fill the need.

MISHAN—Mishan (The Support) is the social welfare agency of Histadrut
which was originally founded during the British mandate period. Today
"Mishan" helps those whose financial condition is insoluble, whether it
be an orphan child or a retired worker without independent means. Mis-
han also aids immigrants in the transit villages (Maabarot).
