Ira Kaufman to Head
Jewish Undertakers

Ira Kaufman, of the Ira Kauf-
man Chapel here, was elected
president of the Jewish Funeral
Directors of America at its re-
cent convention in St. Louis, Mo.
Kaufman, who has served in
the association since 1940, has
held every administrative post.
There are approximately 150
members of the national organ-
ization.
The purpose of the association
is to promote close cooperation
among its members, to support
programs for better service to
the community and to exchange
ideas on the conduct of their
funeral' establishments.

idson. Bros. Inc., operators of the
Federal Department Stores, last
week made known the revolu-
tionary step of his firm in es-
tablishing a_ branch of the Fed-
eral Stores in the downtown
area.
Goodwin's, on Gratiot and
Farmer, was taken over by the
chain to become the 20th Feder-
al branch.

Dedication of the three-story school building of Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah, Dexter and Sturtevant, is set for the middle of January.
The new addition will be available for use by overcrowded classes
of Beth Yehudah, beginning with the second semester of the cur-
rent school year. The new building will have 16 classrooms, a sci-
ence laboratory, lecture hall, library, multi-purpose room, execu-
tive and administrative offices. Dedication exercises will round
out 13 years since Detroit's large academy for advanced Jewish
studies, with a present enrollment of nearly 800, has moved to its
present location on Dexter and Cortland.

elected as president of the Beth
Aron Junior Congregation. Mar-
tin Guyer is honorary president.

be installed at an adult service
by Rabbi Benjamin H. Gorrelick.
Services of the Junior Congre-
gation are held at 9:45 a.m.,
every Saturday, and are open to
youngsters, 10 to 14. Services are
conducted by members, under
the supervision of Sidney Noveck
and Anne Guyer.
Special cantors for Junior
Congregation services are train-
ed by synagogue Cantor Judah
Goldring. A special kiddush is
served to the youth following
each service, in the congrega-
tion's social hall, -

will be presented at 8:30 p.m.,
Wednesday, at Beth Aaron
Synagogue, under auspices of
the synagogue's Men's Club, an-
nounces Sam Lankin, program
chairman.
Participating in the discussion
will be Rabbis Milton Arm,
Hayim. Donin and M. Robert
Syme. Beth Aaron's Rabbi Ben-
jamin H. Gorrelick will moder-
ate the panel.
The discussants will develop
three major areas of Jewish life:
"What Are Our Prospects for the
Future": 1. For a Religious Life
in America; 2. For a Jewish Ed-
ucation and Culture; and 3. For
Israel-American Relationships?"
A question and answer period
will follow the panel's discussion
and a social hour will conclude
the program. The community is
invited to attend.

Cong. Shaarey Zedek will en-

members at a Hanukah party
at 3 p.m., Sunday, in the syna-
