'Kiddie Frolic' Slated

Plans for the dinner of the Detroit Chapter of Brandeis Uni-
versity Associates, to be held Tuesday evening, Nov. 30, at the
Sheraton-Cadillac Hotel, are being made by the committee con-

Dr. SInnueli to Begin Series of Lectures
"Changes in Contemporary
Jewish Life—An Analysis of
Facts and Ideas" will be the
subject of a five-lecture series
to be given by Dr. Ephraim !
Shmueli, author and historian,
before the Kvutzah Ivrith.
The lectures, to be presented
in Hebrew, will be given at 8:30
p.m., on alternate Saturdays, in
the Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg.,
13226 Lawton. The first program
will be on Nov. 27. The public is
invited to purchase series tick-
ets..
At the last meeting of the
Kvutzah. Joseph Katz was elect-
ed president. He will be assisted

Registration Still Open
For Synagogue Institute
Classes in the Synagogue
Adult Institute, sponsored joint-
ly by the five local Conservative
congregations, are filling rapid-
ly, but new registrants may still
enroll, it was announced this
week by Dr. David Blum, Insti-
tute chairman. •
Classes are conducted from
8:15 to 10:15 p.m., every Tues-
day, at Adas Shalom Synagogue.
Courses available include Heb-
rew, the prayerbook, orgins and
meanings o f prayers, great
Jewish personalities and history.
In response to numerous re-
quests, a course has been intro-
duced which treats the mile-
stones in the life • of a Jew:
birth, pidyon haben, Bar Mitz-
vah, marriage and death, which
are examined in the light of
traditional and contemporary
Jewish teachings.

Lists Appointments
Meeting recently at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Selwyn Blum-
berg, Trenton, the board of trus-
tees of the Downriver Jewish
Community Center elected Gil-
bert Appeson, second vice-presi-
dent, and Edward J. Goodman,
treasurer, to fill vacancies in
the executive board.
Plans were reviewed for the
Hanukah carnival to be held
Dec. 19, and arrangements were
completed for a games party
and program of entertainment
on Sunday, at . Jefferson School,
1515 15th St., Wyandotte.
Proceeds from both affairs
will go to the Center's building
fund. Sunday's chairmen are
Mrs. Bess Rose and Mrs. Anna-
belle Benton. Prizes and re-
freshments will be featured,
they said.
Moses Soyer to Exhibit
Works at Gorelick Gallery

Dec: 4. Twenty-three new works
will be on display.

Pokart is an associate chair-
man of the building fund cam-
paign for the new Beth Abra-
ham Synagogue Center, now un-
der construction on Seven Mile
and Greenlawn.
Dr. Harry Newman and Judge

William A. Genser is in charge
of building plans and construc-

Brunch to Honor Pokart
On Return From Israel

The Detroit Board of .Educa-
tion has again started classes in
English for adults in the com-
munity. Already in progress, the
classes are taught from 1 to 3
p.m., every Tuesday and Thurs-
day, in the Davison Jewish Cen-
ter.
The instructor is Mrs. Lillian
Bell. Interested adults may join
by attending any of the lessons

The "Kiddie Frolic, second an-
nual children's party presented
by the Young Marrieds Group
of Temple Israel, will be held at
2 p.m., Nov. 28, in the temple's
main auditorium.
Included among the entertain-
ers will be Diane Dale, popular
television entertainer and a star
of the Wixie Wonderland show,
and Gary Jennings and his
puppets.
According to Mr. and Mrs.
Daniel Arnold, chairmen of the
party, children of members will
be admitted without charge. As-
sisting the Arnolds are Mes-
dames and Messrs. Harvey Bar-
nett, Joel Rosenthal and Ralph
Posner.
