By the Oak-Woodser
A rare commodity in this
rapidly-rising suburban section
is free time!
Folks just moving into the
neighborhood, like anybody who
has gone through the unsettling
process of becoming settled,
find a backlog of work to keep
them busy for a good while.
Yet, once the house is fur-
nished to the liking of Mrs.
Lady Boss, and the outside is
roughed-in to look nearly pre-
sentable, and the kids are off
to school, and you still have
energy left over, there are a
multitude of opportunities to
become active in many organi-
zations.
We have just sat ourselves
down with pencil in hand to try
to think of all the organizations
with which new residents could
affiliate. Although we didn't de-
velop writer's cramp enumerate -
ing all the Jewish activities one
might care to join,.we feel that
there are cfulte a -number from
which to choose.
The representation of the
groups also is encouraging,
with a fine balance of social,
educational, religious and
philanthropical organizations
being built up in a compara-
tively short time.
There are 15 organizations in
all that we have been able to
uncover that are entirely of
Jewish interest. And our imme-
date apologies to those groups
whom we omit. We hope we'll
hear from them in order to
bring to date our information.
Of the 15 organizations, ten
Of them are connected with the
three synagogues in the area.
Counting the congregationS
themselves as organizations, we
find:
Cong. Emanuel, formerly the
Surburan Temple, has a Sister-
hood, a Men's Club and a Youth
Group, all of which invite mem-
bership from Reform Jews in
the area.
Cong. Beth Shalom, originally
organized as the Oak Park Syn-
agogue, has an active Sister-
hood and a Men's Club, formed
this year, which has just finish-
ed plans for an active season
This is the Conservative group.

Oak-Woodser Finds Fifteen
Groups Inviting Membership
HERE NOW!

1955 Imperials Bow as Separate Line
at docifs
Oak-Woods Center, has a Sis-
terhood and Youth Group.
Plans for a Men's Club are be-
ing developed, but as yet none ,
exists. Membership in these
traditional groups, is invited.
The five remaining organiza-
tions are all affiliated with na-
tional organizations, Four a r e
women, the other for male resi-
dents.
Beginning with the South
Oakland County Chapter of Ha-
dassah, which has been in exis-
tence longer than any in the
area, we find that this branch
of the Women's Zionist Organi-
zation of America also has the
largest membership in the sec-
tion.
Originally a part of the De-
troit Chapter, the SOC Chapter
became a separate entity a
number of years ago, and car-
ries out its program of study
groups and social and philan-
thropic activities with a great
amount of Hadassah spirit.
The Huntington Woods
Chapter of Women's American
ORT (Organization for Reha-
bilitation Through Training)
has its own social and educa-
tional endeavors, and supports
the overall ORT program of
sponsoring training schools
for Jewish people in Europe,
North Africa and Israel.
Recently organized is the Su-
burban Chapter of the Jewish
National Fund. This organiza-
tion, besides carrying out the
JNF program of reafforestation
in Israel, offers many Jewish
cultural programs and social
events.
The 20th men's, lodge of Bnai
Brith and the 19th women's
chapter are located in 'South
Oakland County, under the not
too surprising name of the Oak-
Woods Lodge and Chapter.
Carrying out the vast program
of Bnai • Brit h philanthropy,
members still find a great deal of
time for bowling, social activi-
ties and cultural programs.
We feel certain that many
Oak-Woodsers would like to be-
long to one or more of the or-
ganizations o listed - above, We
know they will welcome you as
a means of building a vital Jew-
ish community in the suburbs.
The elegant new 1955 Imperials—this year a complete separate
and distinct line of automobiles—will be shown publicly in major
cities on Wednesday, Nov. 17, which is also announcement date
for the 1955 Chrysler line. Slim, taut and commanding in appear-
ance, the Custom Imperial is powered by the 250-horsepower Fire-
Power V-8 engine and has a wheelbase of 130 inches. It is available
in either six-passenger sedan, shown above, or Newport hardtop
coupe.

tion, and Mrs. Homnick will be

will serve as hostesses at a so-
cial hour to follow. All interested
residents are invited to attend.

Mrs. Morris Goldman, the Sis-
terhood has opened its Hanukah

tion of the holiday.

Before you buy,
check the amazingly low cost
of running a GAS Dryer
A Gas Clothes Dryer is just about the biggest bargain
you can own. It dries the average load of wash in 45 to 50
minutes for less than two cents . . one-fifth the cost of
other automatic dryers. And think of the work it saves you
on that load of wash ... the lifting and carrying of a heavy
basket of wet clothes, the piece-by-piece pinning up and
taking down. Not to mention the probable trouble from
rainy weather, broken clotheslines, and soot in the air
that usually calls kw re-washing.
Clothes come out of the Gas Dryer soft and dean. And
about a third of your wash—sheets, towels, blankets, knit
goods, play clothes--are practically wrinkle-free, ready to
be put away withoit ironing,
