Mrs. Lawrence W. Crohn has returned from Israel where she
visited with her •thildren, Mr. and Mrs. David Crohn.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Maltz, of Oak Park, Mich., recently gave a
surprise dinner and 30th anniversary party for their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Phillip Fagan and Mr. and Mrs. George Maltz. Guests
included friends and relatives from Bay City and Detroit.
Mr. and Mrs Joe Ellis and family, formerly of Greenlawn Ave.,
are now residing at 25524 Wareham, Huntington Woods, Mich.
The children of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Kaplan, of 2472 Glendale,
will entertain at a buffet supper honoring their parents on their
40th wedding anniversary. Over 70 guests will attend the celebra-
tion on Sunday, at the home of Mrs. Hy Koenigsberg, 19472
Freeland. Hosts and hostesses will be the Sidney Kaplans-, Samuel
Kaplans, Barney Kaplans, Hy Koenigsbergs and Philip Kaplans.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Fenton and family, formerly of Strathmoor
Ave., are now in their new home at 18614 Birchcrest Dr.
Ernest :Daniel Bright, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Bright of Glen•
dale Ave., first clarinetist of the New York City Opera, will be
featured in the opera festival here next week. . •

Center 'Chess Club
Elects Emory Hacker

Mr. and Mrs. David S. Stern,
of Philadelphia, Pa., announce
the engagement of their daugh-
ter, Dene, to David B. Mayer, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Julian H. Kro-
lik, of W. Chicago Blvd. Miss
Stern is a graduate of the West-
ern. College for Women. Mr.
Mayer, following service in the
U. S. Army, graduated from
Oberlin College, and did post-
graduate work at the University
of Pennsylvania. The marriage
will be solemnized in February.

At the recent annual election
meeting of the Jewish Commun-
ity Center Chess and Checker
Club, Emory Hacker was voted
into office as president.
He will be assisted by Law-
rence Meyorson, vice-president;
William Barr, treasurer; William
Bergman, secretary; and Rap-
hael Rogers, Robert Bush and
Joseph Schreiber, directors.

at 81, is still one of its most ac-
tive members.
At 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Newell
Banks, internationally known
chess and checker champion will
play simultaneous matches
against 25 chess opponents and
an unlimited number of checker
players.
The club meets from 7:30 to
11 p.m., Tuesdays and Thurs-
days, and from 2 to 5 p.m., Sun-
day, at the D. W. Simons Cen-
ter, 4000 Tuxedo. All chess -play-
ers are welcome.

Branch Seven to Re-Evaluate
Labor Zionist Organization

A re-evaluation of Labor Zion-
ism is planned by members of
Branch Seven, LZOA, at its
meeting Sunday evening, at the
home of the Henry Faigins,

A panel of veteran leaders of
the Detroit Labor Zionist Organ-
