Detroiter Attends
Theological School

Solomon Spiro, son of Rev.
and Mrs. Joshua Spiro, of 7328
Thatcher, Detroit, has been en-
rolled in the freshman class of
the Rabbinical School of the
Jewish Theological Seminary of
America, New York City, it was
announced by Rabbi Marvin S.
Wiener, registrar.
Mr. Spiro, born in Moncton,
New Brunswick, Canada, was
graduated from the Detroit
Hebrew Parochial School in 1950,
attended New York University
and was graduated with distinc-
tion from Wayne University in
1954. Before entering the Rab-
binical School, he attended the
Seminary College of Jewish
Studies of the Jewish Theologi-
cal Seminary as pre-theologi-
cal student. He conducted High
Holiday youth services at Adas
Shalom, where his father is as-
sistant cantor.
Mr. Spiro is one of the 121
students enrolled in the Sem-
inary's Rabbinical School. The
largest class in the history of
the school, its students hail
from 14 states and five foreign
countries, including South Afri-
ca, Ecuador and Hungary.

ham, held last week, Rabbi Is-
rael I. Halpern installed the fol-
lowing congregational officers:

Center Choral Society
To Accept New Members

The Jewish Community Cen-
ter Choral Society, Julius Chajes,

November. The society, now in
its 15th year, performs music by
modern Israeli and American-
Jewish composers.

THE DETROIT ISRAEL HISTADRUT CAMPAIGN

For the third consecutive
year, Conservative synagogues in
the community will sponsor their
Synagogue Adult Institute at
Adas Shalom Synagogue. Clas-
ses started this Tuesday.
The sponsoring congregations
are Adas Shalom, Ahavas Achim,
Beth Aaron, Bnai Moshe and
Shaarey Zedek. Participating in-
structors are Rabbis Moses Lehr-
man, Benjamin Gorrelick, Jacob
E. Segal, Milton Arm and Jacob
Chinitz.
The Institute, to be conduct-
ed from 8:15 a.m. to 10:10 p.m.,
each Tuesday, will run for 20
weeks, through March 22. Sub-
jects include Hebrew, Jewish
bibliography, prayer book and
ethics of our fathers.

Late Services on Nov. 19

Late sabbath eve services will
be resumed at Adas Shalom
Synagogue at 8:30 p.m., Nov. 19.
Rabbi Segal's sermon subject
will be "Prologue to 1654," a
glimpse of the pain and gran-
deur of European Jewish life
preceding the arrival of the first
23 refugee Jews on the American
continent.
Cantor Nicholas Fenakel will
chant the service, assisted by
the newly-formed youth choir.
Late sabbath eve services will
be held once each month. •
Following the service, an oneg
shabbat will be held in the social
hall, with the sisterhood serving
refreshments under the chair-
manship of Mrs. Louis Berent.
