A 1,000 volume library, re-

brary in Northwest Detroit, will
be opened by Adas Shalom Sy-
nagogue on Sunday morning, ac-
cording to Nicholas M. Lazar,
chairman of the synagogue's li-
brary committee.
The books, including works in
Hebrew, Yiddish and English, in-
elude many rare and sacred edi-
tions, especially those in Hebrew,
Lazar said.
The library, which will service
the community as well as mem-
bers of the synagogue and its af-
filiate groups, will be open on
Sundays. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.,
and on Mondays and Wednes-
days, from 7 to 9 p.m.
The library was started with
an allocation from the congre-
gation's budget, and will be
maintained by additional grants
by the synagogue and by person-
al bequests from members in-
terested residents of the com-
munity.
