Book Review Rhymes
For a Good Reason

Something unique in the way
of book reviews was produced
by Dr. Victor E. Reichert, rabbi
of Rockdale Avenue Temple,
Cincinnati, 0.
After reading a book of verse
on Biblical themes by Ilo Or-
leans, Dr. Reichert was inspired
to write an appraisal of the
book in the same kind of poetry
contained in the -book.
The volume, "The First Rain-
bow," one of the first of its 'kind,
was recently published by the
Union of American Hebrew Con-
gregations, and is illustrated by
Maurice Rawson.
- Here is the book review in
verse penned by the Cincinnati
rabbi:

"The First Rainbow" by Ilo Orleans
Will sing its way to tots and teens.
It's "A Book of Rhymes

From Bible Times"

That tells • old tales of Sacred Lore
With a lilt. that children will adore..

Political Puzzle ...
The American Council for Judaism, whose craving for identi-
fication with the Arab cause is only exceeded by its determina-
tion for alienation from the mainstreams of Jewish life, is
currently blowing the horn of delight and approval of President
I Eisenhower's Mid-East pronouncements in his American Jewish
Tercentenary talk. It would seem that a pronouncement so close
to the hearts of the Council would be repugnant to the over-
whelming majority of Jews who see in the imbalance of power in
the Middle East a threat to Israel's security. Yet official Washing-
ton„ with many of its leading spokesmen paving the way, would
have it believed that there is no inconsistency in a policy that is
hotly defended by the Council for Judaism and fiercely opposed
w designed to throw
by American Zionists. Are those ne
light on the State Department's new concept of impartiality?
The impudent Council gentlemen have now accused the Zionists
of injecting partisan politics into the campaign. Since-when is it
trief for an American voter to know how a candidate stands on
a basic issue? The gentlemen of the Council are no authorities
on kashruth, even in its political implications. -

Editor Speaks ...
My recent piece on the sad peregrinations of Commentary
elicited the comment from the editor of a leading Jewish weekly
that the story reminded him of the penitent who was the tailor's
delight. He would wear out the knees of his trousers repenting
and the seat of his pants backsliding.
