In Don's record, we find a continued fight for free-
dom, justice and dignity of man. He has no committ-
rnents or obligations to anyone except all the citizens of
Michigan. He believes the Governor of Michigan should
be free to serve the best interests of ALL the people.
While others have paid lip service to the principle of
doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.
DON HAS LIVED IT!

We, the undersigned independent voters regard with
favor the candidate who in our judgement will serve best
the interests of ALL the people; that's why we are for
Donald S. Leonard as our next Governor of the State of

Michigan.

We are not only satisfied with Leonard as the
cal man to lead our State, but we are convinced that a
change of administration is imperative.

It is our conviction that in everything he has ever
done Don Leonard has been motivated by the desire to
do what is fair and just for all. We base this conclusion
not on statements made in the heat of - an election cam-
paign but on the open record of a• life of service to our
State and to our Country.

This long range view is supported by a statement
made by the late President, Franklin D. Roosevelt:
"Even a wisely-led political party, given long tenure of
office, finally fails to express the will of the people; it
ceases to be an effective instrument of government."

The following is an excerpt from Wayne University's
citation awarding Donald S. Leonard the Honorary de-
gree of Doctor of Laws: "His administrative skill .has
grown with the years. He showed notable tact, skill and
cool judgement in labor arbitration, personnel admini-
stration, and the development of a constabulary which
commands respect throughout the nation."

"It is far better for such a political party, certainly
better for the state, that it should be relegated to the role
of critic, and that the opposing political party should
assume the reins of government."

•

We believe Don has shown he is capable of surrounding himself with men of
*ability to work as a team.

*For his knowledge of Michigan affairs, he has the high regard and respect tlf
State leaders. He gets things done!

*Michigan needs a Governor who will work WITH our Republican state officials
and the Eisenhower Administration . .ALL groups.

•
*For his contribution to the cause of better understanding between Christians
and Jews, he has received acclaim by Jewry throughout the State of Michigan,
and has been lauded for his consistent support in behalf of Israel.
