HOMER FERGUSON

,

Has Spent 12 Years In
The Senate. In Strong

Support Of Jewish Aims

Since his first year in the Senate, after
soundly defeating hate monger Gerald
L. K. Smith in the Primaries, Senator
Ferguson has taken a deep interest h
legislation of importance to the Jewish
people and proved a staunch and
effective friend.

A Man Who Gets Things

Done For You—Is A

In 1943, his first year in the Senate,
Homer Ferguson was a sponsor of a
resolution condemning Nazi Germany's
mass murder of Jews. He urged the
President to formulate immediate plans
"to save the surviving Jewish people of
Europe from extinction at the hands of
Nazi Germany."

Man Who Should Get

In 1944 Homer Ferguson sponsored a
resolution for the establishment of a
Jewish refuge in Palestine.

Your Vote Nov. 2

In 1945 Senator Ferguson reaffirmed his
support for creation of a Jewish Na-
tional Home and urged the British
government to increase by 100,000 the
number of Jewish refugees it would per-
mit to enter Palestine. He and others al
the Senate continued their campaign for
an increase in the number of admissions
to Palestine in 1946, because officials in
the U. S. State Department were oppos-
ing that increase, at the time.

RE-ELECT

As a sponsor of the original Displaced
Persons Act of 1938 and of the Refugee
Relief Act of 1953 Senator Ferguson is
given much credit for the successful pas-
sage of those bills.

In 1947 Senator Ferguson visited Pales-
tine in person and, on his return, con-
tinued his efforts to have the Immigra-
tion restrictions lifted. Furthermore, he
fought to make sure that surplus lend-
lease equipment left in the Near-East
after World War II would not be used
in the fighting against Jewish settlers.

He has always been opposed to the
granting of military assistance to the
Arab states where those arms could be
used against Israel. Such assistance is
directly contrary to the interests of the
United States in the view of Senator
Ferguson. His position of seniority in-
fluence in the Senate has enabled
Senator Ferguson to accomplish real
results in accordance with his views on
this matter.

Senator Ferguson has been a member
of the American-Christian Palestine Com-
mittee for twelve years, and he was the
founder of the American-Israel Society.
He was a sponsor of the Senatorial reso-
lution honoring Israel's second anniver-
sary in April 1950, and attended the
International Planning Conference For
Israel Bonds in March of this year.

During 1951 Senator Ferguson spon-
sored legislation which resulted in
Israel's receiving American economic aid.
It will be recalled that when the previous
administration failed to recommend aid to
Israel, it was through action co-sponsored
by Homer Ferguson that this aid was
finally granted.

Senator Ferguson was the ONE mem-
ber of the 83rd Congress who spoke up
vigorously for military aid to Israel. He
was personally responsible in the private
committee sessions for seeing that Israel
received needed assistance.

Senator Ferguson has aided thousands of
Michiganders with their personal prob-
lems. For example, when a Detroit Jew-
ish congregation recently requested his
help, he responded immediately so that
immigration red tape was cleared and
the congregation's rabbi was admitted
to this country in time for the high holy
days. In acknowledging the Senator's
assistance, the Congregation wrote: It
is indeed a source of real gratification
to feel that we can turn to our Senator
for his aid and assistance in a perplex-
ing problem." Homer Ferguson is indeed
a man of many "mitzvot".

Homer Ferguson's ability, courage, and
loyalty have earned for him the utmost
respect and complete support of the
Eisenhower administration and positions
of the greatest responsibility among his
fellow Senators.

No man in Congress has worked harder for lower taxes than Homer Ferguson. Last year Congress

passed the largest tax cut ever made in a single year.

Ferguson successfully guided all defense appropriation bills through the Senate. His foresight and wisdom
gave America global air and sea power and a reserve of well-equipped ground forces.

Ferguson's proposal requiring Communist organizations to register is America's principal weapon against

the Communist cancer. Red strategy and tactics have been exposed through inquiries he has conducted.

Victory for the St. Lawrence Seaway project was spearheaded in the Senate by Homer Ferguson, to bring

increased prosperity and thousands of new jobs to Michigan.

Ferguson led the battle for the largest federal road building program in history, providing a 50%

bringing an annual Federal payroll of $31/2 million into Michigan.

Through Ferguson's efforts, the Michigan wage earner today has greater unemployment benefits and

better working conditions. In addition, he obtained many government contracts for labor surplus areas

of Michigan.
