Zivian, Fisher and Avrunin Named
On UM Mission to Europe, Israel
Three Detroiters have been
named by the United Jewish
Appeal to jOin in a special mis-
sion of lay leaders and profes-
sional consultants who will
study the current program of
the Joint Distribution Commit-
tee and developments in . Israel
as they are related to aid from
America.
They are lay leaders Max J.
Zivian, chairman of the capital
needs committee, and Max M.
Fisher, treasurer of the Jewish
Welfare . Federation; and Wil-
Ham Avrunin, associate director
of Federation. -
The study group will meet in
Paris beginning the night of
Saturday, Oct 30, in conjunction
with the annual JDC directors'
conference.
Heading the lay leaders on the
mission is Edward M. M. War-
burg; UJA general chairman.
Joseph J. Schwartz, UJA execu-
tive vice-chairman, leads the
professional group,
Following the five-day Paris
conference which will review
the work being done in Europe
and North Africa and the Mal-
ben program in Israel, the mis-
sion will go to Israel for meet-
ingS with government, Jewish
Agency, agridulture, industrial,
social welfare, a n d health
leaders. A sub-committee of the
mission will also visit North
Africa. - • "
On their return, the special
mission group will report their
findings to . American Jewish
communities.
Zivian, a member of the. exe-
cutive committee of Federation
and of the board of Sinai Hos-
pital, was treasurer of the 1954
Allied Jewish Campaign.: •
